Article about Texas A&M linebacker Von Miller going #1 to the Panthers

I don't know how anyone else feels about this kid, but to me he seems like the kind of guy that the front office would want to add to the roster. He seems to have his head in the right place, and when combined with his excellence on the field, he would be a perfect fit in Carolina. But, as we all know, college awards and great stats don't necessarily translate to NFL success, regardless of how highly regarded the player was in college (history provides us with plenty of examples). However, Miller appethears to have the talent required to succeed at the professional level, and his measurables (6'3”, 246 lbs.) are difficult to ignore.

I think this would probably be the safest pick at #1. Linebackers have had instant rookie success on a regular basis. Brian Cushing and Clay Matthews come to mind. Wouldn't be against the pick, but they'd better do something at QB some other way, because when you draft #1, it's usually because you don't have a QB.

the #1 reason why the Panthers won't draft Von Miller is because if they do draft him, they will not have solved any problems on their team. he is going to be very good for some team in the top 10, maybe top 5. i think he's a legit stud LB for a long time if he stays healthy.

As "ridiculous" as it is to spend #1 overall on a CB, it's doubly so for a LB in a 4-3. If we were running a 3-4 then I could see it, since he'd be considered a pass rusher rather than just a LB. At least CB can shut down half the field. He's a great athlete, but I think a team that can better utilize his talents will take him in the next few picks after us.
