Colin Kaepernick

His entire throwing motion will have to be revamped. It is long and all over the place. That is a hard thing to do while keeping the great RPM's that he already has and staying accurate.

I am in the firm camp of using our first round pick on a QB or wait till next year to see what shakes out in terms of QBs

He had one of if not the quickest deliveries in the combine (and no, I'm not talking about ball speed). Leave his mechanics alone.

If you break down the skill sets, it is hard to say that Kaepernick has no upside and that his tools are inferior to those of Newton, Gabbert, Locker or Mallet. He needs coaching and has a lot (alot) of mechanical issues that will need addressing.

Size: 6' 4.5" 233 lbs

40 time: 4.53 at combine (faster than everyone except Tyrod Taylor)

Arm Strength: Comparable to Mallett, but has a quicker delivery. Was clocked higher than all other QBs

All of the QBs need work. In college, Kaepernick led his team to a victory over then unbeaten Boise State. 4 year starter, has improved each year.

I don't see what the others offer that he does not, frankly. Hype? I think it is VERY possible Kaepernick gets taken in first round, but he will probably be there in the early second. If we trade down and get a second, maybe. I would consider him a project, but a talented one. His future is brighter than Pike's.

Agree--I could not find the flaws I was expecting after reading about him, but I am not an expert like some on this board.

I would not be surprised if a team like Minnesota or Miami takes him. SF interviewed him, but they were thinking second round. In all, 14 teams talked to this guy at the combine-Nearly half the league.

So dig deep into your vast experience and expertise and scratch him off if you want, but this kid has ALL the tools. He simple needs experience under center and to fill out a bit (233?). I think he should go before Mallett, Ponder, and possibly Locker. He could be the #3 QB in the draft. I think he is, personally, I just have not seen enough of him to know.

OK--the shallow-minded, wise-cracking, know-it-alls have quit reading by now, fast at work with a fragmented retort aimed at getting pie and rep from their pimply-faced friends. Find a better athlete with a better arm. FInd a harder worker. I am not sure of his intelligence, but I bet it is decent. What the heck are you looking for? What does Cam not need that this kid needs? A publicist?

I know the guy as a football player, I rarely listen to athletes talk because for the most part they're all pretty dumb so if that was a reference to something he said, no I didn't get it.

No, I just missed your point as well as my typo. Was typing too quickly and getting ahead of myself. I often do. I fixed it.

Once again, we know Luck is going back to college. Due to our situation, there seems to be alot of pressure to draft a QB. With Gabbert most likely acing his pro-day when it comes to throwing the ball to his receivers (against air), the Panthers could be easily duped into taking him with the number one overall pick. Yet that would be a mistake, as I don't see Gabbert being a great QB anytime soon. Plus, I'm sensing the same self-entitlement in his interviews as I do with Cam Newton. Depending more on his own athleticism to them through than working hard and being a student of the game.

Now the Bengals may become more desperate than we are, and make a trade for Gabbert. This would be the best case scenario, as teams who trade out of the first overall pick usually get quality value in return. If we can switch our first picks and pick up a second round pick (and potentially much more), the Panthers need not hesitate to make this deal.

With all that said, in the second or third round, we need to pick up this cat Colin Kaepernick. He has a strong work ethic, as seen throughout his college career. When his coaches asked him to improve on a certain area, he did it and succeeded. He also seems like the kind of player Steve Smith would love to tutor, and Colin wouldn't give him any back talk. (Smith would probably jump all over Newton, and who knows what would happen between him and Gabbert. Plus we just picked up Shockey's attitude.) I said it before, he is your Josh Freeman type player, in arm strength and mobility. (We saw how easily Freeman dodge CJ and the guys this year, I see Colin doing the same thing for us) So with either a second round pick or our first third, we need to get this guy. He is Rivera's "Phillip Rivers"!

I like the fact that he is smart, according to rivals site he had a 3.9gpa and scored 1650 on the sat not to bad. http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Colin-Kaepernick-40529

I really like the guy.If he could speed up his release he would be awesome. He will need a year to develope as all the qbs in this draft will.

If the right coaching staff gets this guy, he could be special down the road. Not many second rounders have the upside this kid has. If people don't agree with that, they don't know what tools the best NFL QBs possess.
