There were more to our problems than Clausen last year

It wasn't 5 games. It was 11.

And we actually moved the ball some. We may not have finished drives. we may not have been able to get in the endzone. We may have thrown a pick.

But at least we had drives.

The turnover on offense wasn't that severe. But the drop in production was sharp.

Yep. Talent around the qb wasn't much different at all. 09 we saw what a huge swing Qb can make in terms of how competitive a team can be. Qb play was just bad in 10. Offensive talent in Car is actually pretty decent if we can get some legit qb play

just go there, click on 2009. there are 3 games with 0 interceptions. he played 11 games, had 18 interceptions, therefore he threw 18 in 8 games. crazy.

not saying he only played in 8. just saying, he only threw interceptions in 8. seems stupid I guess, but it's just to emphasize the fact they came in huge bunches generally :p

Gotcha. I thought you meant that he only played in 8 games. 18 in 8 games is pretty rough.

it's insane. if you consider the fact he actually had 5 in his playoff loss as well... I mean, ouch.

poor Jake. Love the guy. He did a lot for the team... buy damn did he come unglued there. :( That was such a painful season to watch because you just saw him slipping away game by game. We actually won two games where he barely threw, then the brilliant minds on offense would go into games where our running game was playing well and have him throw 40 times to "work it out" of him. Uggh.

Yea, I can see your point, teeray, our offense moved the ball better with Jake than it did with Jimmy but I just get hung up on those 9 or 10 INTs he threw in 2 games back to back (Arizona playoffs and Eagles season opener). Jimmy never threw more than 2 in a game as far as I remember. Jake's high was higher than Jimmy but his low was MUCH lower. In my opinion, when you average it all out, I'd rather have Jimmy than the Jake from Arizona playoff game onwards. At least Jimmy has room for growth whereas Jake was all downhill and when you're starting from a molehill, it's gonna be bad.

At what point should Scherer and Davidson enter the discussion? There's your common denominator right there. Look at Jake 2008 vs Jake 2009, for example...

I don't think you can blame Scherer. Although Jake seemed to tank right after he got there. I think it became a mental thing with Jake.

Like quicksand from the movie "The Replacements" the harder he fought the deeper he seemed to go.

Davidson has one of the least QB friendly offenses that a coordinator could possibly have IMO.

You want to see the real turning point for Jake, it was when Henning left. he had a couple decent years after Henning left but nothing near where he was before Davidson got here.

So hopefully we will see a big jump in production from Jimmy just due to a new offensive coordinator.

Not that I believe Clausen has franchise QB potential... but I don't see how he could of possibly succeeded last year. It was probably the worst possible situation to stick a rookie QB in.

Prior to the start of the year everyone said he was in the best situation any of the rookies could be in. He just stunk. a couple bad quarters from Moore have been overblown as proof of something....

Even though they were flawed young rookies, Gettis and LaFell gave us better options at Wr than we would have had in Moose.

I agree there were tons of issues....but when Fox benched Moore in week 2 for Clausen he killed the season. Moore was a good bit better than Clausen and based off reports in camp that was never really a question. Clausen playing the majority of the snaps was easily the biggest problem as it also created others.

Fox being a retard and a stacked box were issues Carolina faced and still saw success at other times.....mainly after Jake was benched in 09 and part of Moores small reps in 2010

That may be true but just like Jake we shedded all the veteran leadership at both Qb and wr.
