There were more to our problems than Clausen last year

Jake never played on last year's team, with that many injuries and new players starting. The year two years ago that you mentioned, he had double trouble completely healthy all year, he had his O-line intact pretty much all year, he had a seasoned Moose instead of rookies across from Smitty. It was a completely different team. We would have gone 0-16 with Jake as our QB last year. Look how he shat the bed in '09, with the same team as he had in '08.

Jake Delhomme had some success in this offense and he may be out of the league next year bc he is so bad. So if one of the worst QBs in the league had some success in this offense what does that say about Clausen who didn't?? Even Jake's terrible season two years ago he was able to make the offense more productive.

I am not Jake's biggest fan. Not by a long shot.

But I feel comfortable in saying, there is no way in hell we go 2-14 if Jake played on our team last year.

By the end of his time here he may have been defunct as a QB. He would have dragged us to at least 4 victories somehow.

Jake has had plenty of years with injuries similar to last year including a great year in which Smitty got hurt the first game of the season and missed the entire season. Or how about the years that Colbert or Drew Carter were our second receivers.

I don't want to spend to much time defending Jake because I don't think he was a good QB by the time his era was over here.

But those who think Clausen was better last year than Jake, even at his worst, is kidding themselves.

It isn't just that Clausen was bad, he was wholly inept. He wasn't just not making plays, he was unable to sustain any drives. At times it seemed we couldn't even get one first down through the air in an entire game.

I am glad many here are as positive about Clausen as the are. I try. I have a hard time remaining optimistic.

Matt Moore, that is a different story. I just have a feeling that if we are going to see a major difference from last year it is going to be with Moore behind center.

And I am no big Moore fan. That is just how little faith I have in Clausen.

Here's to him proving me wrong. :cheers2:

I said LAST YEAR. Jake also sucked in this offense in 2009. Remember 18 INTS in 5 games? He had his OLINE in tact and veteran WRs. His backs were healthy. No comparison.

Jake from the year Smitty got hurt? Sure, that one's much better than Clausen. Jake of the past 2 or 3 years? Nope.

We cold go back and fort on this all night. But if you think Jimmy last year was an upgrade over Jake I can do nothing for you.

At least Jake could move the ball. Maybe he would throw a pick at the end of a good drive but at least we actually had drives.

But we just have to agree to disagree bc neither one of us can prove the other wrong.

You still the man Blaze I just completely disagree with you on Clausen.

Firstly, Clausen won't improve until he changes that throwing motion of his. The guy is listed at 6'2" (players are usually shorter than what they are listed at), yet because of his side winding throws, he plays as though he is 5'11". You would think he was playing baseball due to all the bat downs defenses have been giving his pitches.

Peyton Manning is worth 8-9 wins to his team

Tom Brady is worth 9-10 wins to his team

Jimmy Clausen is worth 8-9 losses to his team

Sigh, boarding on your phone and having an annoying cat nearby = accidental pie.

To contribute on a tangent, I think Peyton is far more valuablr to the Colts than Brady is to the patriots.

Before I get all the hate threads let me just state this is just my opinion.

I think the demise of last year was more than just having Clausen as our qb.To me it started with cutting veteran wrs like Moose and Vincent on the OL among others on the defensive line.We also gave Jake 12 million to leave where he clearly had value at the very least as a mentor.Lets not forget Matt Moore was performing well at the end of the season before. Then came the draft where we picked a QB that dropped in the draft without any thought in seeing if he was really our franchise QB of the future. Then we trade up for A Edwards who like Clausen was not going to have an impact on our season. So what we end up with is a lame duck coach with new qb and three new receivers and a depleted OL and DL.Then come the injuries to TDavis,Otah among others. If that was not enough Fox runs the offense like a middle school team allowing defenses to put 8 or 9 in the box and shut down our running game.

Even though they were flawed young rookies, Gettis and LaFell gave us better options at Wr than we would have had in Moose.

I agree there were tons of issues....but when Fox benched Moore in week 2 for Clausen he killed the season. Moore was a good bit better than Clausen and based off reports in camp that was never really a question. Clausen playing the majority of the snaps was easily the biggest problem as it also created others.

Fox being a retard and a stacked box were issues Carolina faced and still saw success at other times.....mainly after Jake was benched in 09 and part of Moores small reps in 2010

I agree. Cassel winning 11 proves that. I doubt the Colts win 6 without Manning

It wasn't 5 games. It was 11.

And we actually moved the ball some. We may not have finished drives. we may not have been able to get in the endzone. We may have thrown a pick.

But at least we had drives.

The turnover on offense wasn't that severe. But the drop in production was sharp.

actually both of you are off tho Teeray is technically correct as he did play in 11 games. he threw 18 ints in 8 games though. He had 3 games with no interceptions, plus the 5 at the end of the season he didn't play in.

But we did move the ball with Jake.... part of that was that our running game was pretty effective. The other part was he threw for more than 200 yards 5 times, 300 yards twice, and threw 8 TDs that year.

Are you sure. ESPN has him leading the team is passing in 11 of 16 games in 2009.

It's sad that when I read the positive part of this post about Delhomme? His stats almost make me drool.
