4 preseason games is broken, so converting two of those into regular season games looks like an easy fix. Seems as though not everyone agrees with that, though. Just whacking 2 preseason games isn't all that appetizing to the owners because they lose out on two games worth of income. Hopefully they can find a happy medium in there somewhere.

I'm tired of paying for two worthless preseason games, one will be enough. Everyone has suffered through this recession but pro athletes. These millionaires will be fine will a little less money than they have been used to making. The owners are just squaring the field where they fugged up in '06.

If they figure this thing out before the draft it would be perfect for us...we could trade smitty for picks (if he wants it). Maybe trade for orton or palmer so we don't settle for a QB. And, assuming a rookie cap, we might have a decent shot at moving back. Oh and we can fill some holes through free agency so we don't have to reach during the draft.

trade what for orton? you havent heard? he is the starter, you think fox will let him go? lets make it easy then, smith for orton, right?

Jerry Richardson deserves the coveted Owner of the Year award for tanking an entire season of football in preparation for a lockout that may not happen at all.

All I know is when a CBA does get done Richardson had better come off his wallet and fix this mess he created. I don't want to pay my good money to see another 2-14 disaster.

18 game season messes a lot of things up

injuries: teams already limp into the playoffs every year missing several players. making them play an extra two games only makes it more likely teams will be missing several key players come playoff time.

then you have the record books becoming irrelevant(for the most part).. throwing 40+ touchdowns/5k yards is going to become a normal occurrence every season. sure, it won't mean as much as Marino/Brees/Brady/Manning/etc records, but it's just going to make those guys much more forgettable.

I agree with several posters here saying don't fix what ain't broke..

I know right.

This has been a mediocre team at best.

4 seasons out of 16 above 500.

3 seasons out of 16 a division winner.

Sabotaging the team in 2010 in the name of the CBA while the rest of the NFC south seems to be getting stronger may make for a painful few years.

Get used to it

The players absolutely hate the 18 game season, and why shouldn't they? Their bodies get battered enough as it is. Pretty hypocritical of the league to talk about player safety being their top priority then try to shove a longer season down their throats.

And then there's the guys on the fringes. Right now they have four chances to try to catch on with their team (or some team). This proposal cuts those chances in half.

Now, from the fan perspective...

For the fans who regularly buy season tickets, guess what this means? More money out of their pockets.

And even if you aren't attending the games, temember how much it sucked watching the last few games of this past season? Now imagine if there were two more of them. Eighteen games makes bad seasons even longer.

Throw in that by the end of the year, lots of teams start to rest their starters. With two extra weeks, that probably starts earlier. And beyond that, I'm as big a football fanatic as you'll find. But even for me, by season's end, I find myself needing a break.

Finally, I feel ultimately with added wear and tear and additional injuries and such, it will dilute the quality of the game.

Whether you agree with all that or not, trust me, there are reasons.

An 18 game schedule is the worse thing that can happen in the NFL. Some people may not like the 4 preseason games, but those games are necessary to evaluate what new guys you want to keep on your team. Every year we have no idea who will stay on the team until the 3rd or , most of the time, the 4th game. If they cut it to 2 games, they might as well just do away with preseason all together and draw names out of a hat to determine who stays.

I would also like to add to Scott's reasons against it is that stats will be inflated even more and will become uncomparable to seasons of past. Especially from 1977 and past when they played 14 games. The happiest group of people in America if this 18 game schedule happens is the '72 Dolphins. That would just about make their unbeaten season impossible to match.
