If there were a deal, I'd doubt the wage scale would apply to this year.

How are the players from the draft gonna sign a contract if the CBA do not apply for them? How do you justify the new CBA have effect on some players but not everyone. It would be a mess.

Good news, if it turns out being true, that it'll be done by next Friday.

Rookie wage scale is going to be one of the best things coming out of this CBA. Of course, it'll be interesting to what type of wage scale they end up agreeing with. I'm sick of seeing rookie's getting 50 mil signing bonus for being nothing but the top college player coming out. Big deal. That ain't worth 50 mil. It ain't worth 20 mil.

It will also be interesting to see how long the league gives teams to resign their own. Figure there to be a bit of a grace period, no longer than 1 week.

Why are so many fans against the proposed 18 game schedule? For me, outside of hockey, the offseason drags on in monotony. With 18 games, I would assume, that training camps and OTA's would be held earlier; meaning less time without football.

I know people will say that teams like the Colts will have their division wrapped up in week 14 and have 4 meaningless games at the end of the year. However that can be fixed with scheduling.

Also, how many times have teams, the Panthers included, made late season surges only to miss the playoffs. Then the team ahead of them gets knocked out 1st round? The Packers almost missed the playoffs this year because of a slow start, even though they were clearly the best team in football.

The players absolutely hate the 18 game season, and why shouldn't they? Their bodies get battered enough as it is. Pretty hypocritical of the league to talk about player safety being their top priority then try to shove a longer season down their throats.

And then there's the guys on the fringes. Right now they have four chances to try to catch on with their team (or some team). This proposal cuts those chances in half.

Now, from the fan perspective...

For the fans who regularly buy season tickets, guess what this means? More money out of their pockets.

And even if you aren't attending the games, temember how much it sucked watching the last few games of this past season? Now imagine if there were two more of them. Eighteen games makes bad seasons even longer.

Throw in that by the end of the year, lots of teams start to rest their starters. With two extra weeks, that probably starts earlier. And beyond that, I'm as big a football fanatic as you'll find. But even for me, by season's end, I find myself needing a break.

Finally, I feel ultimately with added wear and tear and additional injuries and such, it will dilute the quality of the game.

Whether you agree with all that or not, trust me, there are reasons.

I want the 18 game schedule. And for the players whining, you lose two preseason games and they are going to reduce the OTA's to help compensate. I watched weeks 16-17 and didnt' see anymore guys go on IR than in weeks 1-15.

Bottom line everyone in America is working more for the same money and so should the athletes.

As for as the fans, the season is way too short for me. I want to see them play 20 regular games. I loves me some football, the more the better.

They said that going to 14 games. They said that going to 16 games. didn't hurt the game at all and neither will going to 18.

It's all about quality. With 18 games the quality in all apspects is lower. It's lower because teams lock up divisions and don't give a poo. It's quality drops because players already go through hell and with 16 games and injuries will be much more abundant. The quality drops becasue each game doesn't mean as much. Think of RBs life after 18 games, they'd be rotated every 2-3 years. They will be exchanged and drafted like hotcakes. So quality is the reason. There needs to maintain a level of preparation put into each game because each game matters which creates a quality of a game that I can afford to pay money for and spend time for. 18 games is purely a money perspective type thing and I can't understand why and fan can't see that, we are fans, not businessmen. We need to want and demand quality, but there will always be those who want more more more. Less is more just in another way.
