So a CB hasn't been drafted first overall, fine...

But a DT has been taken 5 times in the past at #1 overall..

Just because A CB hasn't been taken first and a DT has really doesn't mean anything. It's like saying because I have never had sex before and have gotten a blow job that I prefer getting another blowjob because well having sex is unknown to me.

Well lets look at the Blow Jobs in years past that have been taken first overall at DT.

Walt Patulski 1972 Buffalo Bills: He recorded 21.5 sacks in his four years with the Bills. After his fourth year, he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals for a second round pick. He played one year there before retiring due to an injury...Yawn

Kenneth Sims 1982 New England Patriots: The guy played a full 16 game schedule one time in his whole career then got busted with cocaine possesion.. Saweeet

Russell Maryland 1991 Dallas Cowboys: The only guy in this whole list worth mentioning. The guy played 140 games in a 9 year career. with 1 probowl appearance and 3 super bowl appearance which in large part wasn't his doing. Yayy one DT worth a damn yet not even close to being worthy of the first selection that year.

Steve Emtman 1992 Indianapolis Colts: The guy had more missed games due to injury than sacks in his whole career. Ya he played a game with a ruptured disk which probably meant he was a tough as nails football player but to consider him worthy of the pick is almost as ludicrous as listening to one of Meats jokes.

So ya I guess you can say in the whole history of the draft 1 player picked as the 1st overall at DT made an impact and no CBs have ever been taken at that same pick but that shouldn't mean we should just be safe and take a DT first overall. As you can see history shows that taking a DT first overall really isn't that safe.

*waits for the but but but "prime time" and Mike " I am the best scout that can't get a real scouting gig in the NFL" Mayock said we shouldnt take a CB first so we shouldn't crowd to respond in 3...2....

You going to pay a CB Quarterback money? Next, you don't draft a CB high till you have a pass rush, and we don't have one. Fix the line, Fix QB then worry about DB's

I can't find a reason not to draft the kid.

What a size and speed combination!! Great skill set.

He also can return punts and kick offs, getting even more value out of him.

It would mean we'd be passing up on an impact player at the defensive tackle position. I know your post was to dismiss the value of the best dt in this draft....but that could end up being a mistake. Doesn't matter how good our backend is, if the quarterbacks still have a pocket to step up in.

Without a pass rush he won't be shutting down anything. And there are other guys we can use on special teams so we don't need him. Sure he would help the team but you don't worry about plugging a small leak when you have much larger ones already. You plug the biggest one first and work down in order of priority.

Defensive line wasnt the biggest problem last year. Our DE is solid we can pick up a DT in Free Agency. As far as other players helping ST's that hasnt worked so far. We can fix 2 phases of the game with one pick. PP has been the best player so far in the draft. With him and Gamble and the rest of the secondary QB's wont have open receivers to throw too.

I don't get how other people don't understand that filling a need with someone who isn't very good doesn't actually fill that need.

well said

and by the way I'll take a cornerback that forces teams to throw away from him any day. still don't understand why teams refusing to throw at a corner is a bad thing...
