Is Favre the greatest QB ever?

It depends on when you're asking the question though....obviously now that he's 38 or 39, the answer is no. Mid 90's Favre though is a different story.

he still wasnt best ever then. Sure he was good, but best ever there are several other names that fit that title.

Your original post was if you were building A team....I thought you were discrediting that at one time he was a good quarterback...

He's going to be considered the best of all time because he has the records. However, he got those records by playing many more games because he never missed one. So I have to agree with the majority - a great QB in his time, but not the best to have played the game as ESPN is lobbying for right now...

Good list although I would put Montana at the top and move Elway up.

Farve is not even top 10 imo.

Nope, IMO most of the reason he has all the leads in stats is his longevity. He probably isn't even the best QB in GB history (Starr). He's also not played very well/made crucial errors in crucial times in most of his playoff games in this decade. He had a cannon for an arm, no doubt. I would call him very good good in his heydey not but not a great of all time.

Excellent post fireball and spot on, I'd take Marino over Favre anyday.

Marino only played in a total of 242 games and Favre on the other hand, played in 273 games. If Marino would've even bothered to play in another 31 games he would've only needed to throw for an average of 121.5 yards and 1.4 tds per game to tie all of Favre's BS longevity records. Sure Favre had a SB in the first half of his career, which I consider a team win, but let's face it he had the #1 scoring offense and #1 defense in football that season. Marino never had that and he had to play that 49ers "dynasty" in the SB led by Joe Montana. All Favre had to do was beat a 96 Pats team led by Drew Bledsoe. Granted the Pats did have the #2 scoring offense that year but their defense was ranked 14th. Let's also not forget the huge role Desmond Howard played in that SB as well. I'm just stating that other than the personal records he hung around to achieve what did Favre actually accomplish in the latter half of his career? He is a great QB but not the greatest of all time and I don't think you can measure it by one SB ring and a sh*tload of personal records that took him longer to break than the guy who originally set them. His INT record was previously held by a guy that played in almost 100 more games than him, is that great? He use to kill the Bears for years but towards the end of his career with the Packers, around the last 4-5 seasons, he threw more tds to the Bears defense than his own recievers. I'm taking Marino.

Favre's stats after 241 games(1 less than Marino's career)

414 tds, 57,500 yards, 273 INT, looks like he would've neede 6 tds and 1861 yards in his next game to be exactly on par with marino after 242 games. is it really that great of a record if it takes longer to achieve? I got to give props on the consecutive starts though but I think the pain killer abuse might have had something to do with that.

When it's all said and done Peyton Manning is going to own quite a few of those records. Favre played for 18 years and achieved what he did. Manning has been playing 11 years and is already at least top 5 in a few of those categories. If he can go 18 years, wow.

Manning will own them all except the int record, that is favre's one damn near unattainable achievement.:D
