Offensive Linemen needed

Otah had meniscus repair surgery which can take up to 2 months to heal and then another 8-10 weeks of rehab. It is much more involved than meniscus removal surgery which is very common and typically is easily recovered from in a few weeks. The difference is when they remove the meniscus the two bones rub together and arthritis and joint problems can occur in the future. When the meniscus is repaired the expectation is that things return to normal and the knee is fine in the future.

At this point there is every reason to believe that Otah will be fine and able to play right tackle as before. The whole notion that we need to move him inside or that he won't be able to perform appears to be coming from left field.

First of all several guys got plenty of work last year which helped build depth which was sorely lacking. Secondly we solved this problem in 2008 when we got Vincent by simply bringing in several cheap guys and looking for a diamond in the rough. We will likely draft a few guys perhaps with our few extra compensatory picks. But honestly I am not that concerned about our line this year and think they will do a decent job. After all we are due a bit of good luck with our offensive line for once. Maybe we can avoid the injuries for starters.

That gets to my point: Schwartz did fairly well and the have Robinson on the back burner. are 7th round picks going to even stick? Thanks fro the answer on the knee. Very informative.

We actually should get a 3rd round compensatory pick for Peppers as well. Not sure if we get more since we cut guys like Lewis instead of them leaving via free agency. But we might take a few shots like we did before on late rounders. Hard to say if they will stick though. We only keep 8 or 9 guys. Still Hurney is best at finding good value at the bottom of the draft or with UDFAs.

My biggest concern is if we lose a tackle. I HATE moving Wharton anywhere to fill i at T because an injury then makes us weaker at 2 positions. I watched Williams get abused last year. If we can bring in a guy to backup tackle, we should do so with the understanding that he could see the field soon. Gross is not a kitten and Otah has a history of injuries. We really have nothing behind Gross.

Of course, a lot could happen with existing personnel, that could change things. Whatever we do at QB, protecting him needs to be priority 1. That means if A goes down, B steps in and there is lttle drop off. Our dropoffs were huge last year. We need a developmental tackle to groom. I think we are OK at RG because Schwartz was having to learn the position on the fly. He played well at the end of the year.

I think Otah will be fine, but we would be smart to sign a solid veteran backup just in case. Can't have our whole OL coming apart because of one guy going down.

What we need are two guys similar to what we had with Geoff Hangartner and Jeremy Bridges back in '08.

Thank you for the update.I had posted the question before and did not get an answer.Everyone wondered what happened to our OL last year.Otah was a beast in clearing the way for our rbs and we need two affective guys at OT to improve. If he is healthy it will be like having another 1st rd pick.
