When ESPN covers this the should have a countdown on both ends of the segment like the show 24.

The for good measure every once in a while throw out Keifer Sutherland's voice, "parental supervision.... is advised." Beep Boop Beep Boop

Gotdamn I miss that show!!!

The NFLN Legal analyst says he can't see a deal done till decertification happens and or a lockout and both parties lose money. Who knows.

As for as that prick D smith, he got the job saying he wasn't going to buddy with the NFL or any owners he was going to fight them essentially. Mort brings up the point upshaw could at any time call just about any owner and just talk. With upshaw there was mostly labor peace.

I think the best thing is for the union to punt kick smith and get a guy that isn't going in there just to be an ass and try to bully.

What is your deal, man? Do you own an NFL franchise? Would you prefer the players bring in a guy who simply folds? Or do you just not have the slightest fuging clue what you're talking about?

My problem with Smith is that he comes off as a guy more worried about his own legacy and resume than he is working for the people he represents. Fold? Of course not, but he didn't have to spew all the public rhetoric and negotiations are about compromise, by both parties.

Your impressions of him may be correct, I don't know. I made similar unsubstantiated comments about Gabbert in another thread - he just comes across as a douchebag to me.

I agree with you generally that it's unseemly to negotiate business through PR, but 1) it's done all the time in struggles of high public interest, and 2) I'm not convinced Smith has done that, at least not any more than the owners' corner has. Maybe you can provide evidence otherwise.

I think you made another point about negotiations being a matter of compromise, with which I agree 100%. The problem is, I haven't seen that coming from owners, until yesterday when the players threatened to decertify and take their chances in court.

Look, the players have absolutely zero bargaining power with the owners under the CBA. NONE. It's not a fair fight. I think it's easy to lose sight of that because they make money most could never dream of, but this is not an arm's length negotiation.

Saber rattling...

PFT: Rockefeller hopes NFL and Union can resolve differences without "assistance" from Congress

Arguably implicit in this message is that, if they can’t sort out this dispute without assistance from Congress, Congress potentially will be providing some assistance.

Whether the NFL wants the assistance or not.

Don't be surprised if the NFL suddenly becomes a tad more flexible in their position :sosp:

(and/or takes time out to change their collective drawers)
