Same here. Shockey has been (at times) an impact player for the Giants and Saints. He might bring something to the Panthers. He might be washed out too. We'll just have to see. Not a bad move. Not an awesome move.

Can we interpret this move to mean anything about Carolina’s plans at quarterback?Yeah, I think you can read some things between the lines. My take is this is another sign the Panthers probably won’t draft Cam Newton or Blaine Gabbert. Shockey used to bully a young Eli Manning when they were together with the Giants. Put him with Carolina receiver Steve Smith and their competitive desires and outspoken natures could make life real difficult for a young quarterback. I’m thinking trading for or signing a veteran like Donovan McNabb or Carson Palmer, who reportedly could be available, would make for a much more conducive situation. Shockey was relatively well behaved in New Orleans because the Saints have basically one rule: You dont mess with Drew Brees because it's his team. Shockey followed that rule.

Yasinskas may turn out to be right, but that's a heck of a leap in logic.

I don't see Smith or Shockey causing much of anything with Rivera in charge. Maybe it's the Mexican cartel vibe I get from him, but I think he brings a lot of respect and discipline with him. Something I think Fox lost a few years back.

I also love how people act like we'd NEVER bring in someone like Shockey. We only went after a player who kneed a guy in the balls(brayton), kept a guy who has punched 2 teammates, brought in one of the biggest mouths ever (keyshawn), but yet act like getting Shockey breaks some law that says we can't sign anyone with an attitude.

I think if John Fox were still in charge, this wouldn't have happened. Rivera is built to handle guys like Shockey. Fox wasn't.

I still wouldn't hold my breath waiting for us to sign anyone with a criminal past though. "Character issues" and "attitude issues" aren't necessarily the same thing. For that matter, there's a difference between attitude issues between "lazy bum" and "cocky bastard".
