if the panthers (who are typically a good judge of talent, esp. in the first round) think that he can be their guy, don't you want him? If they think he can be the guy, then I'd love to have him.

i don't know why you wouldn't want them to see that he is worth the #1 overall. It's not that I don't want them to see that, I want them to see that and it be true.

if they like him (and i really hope they do) why shouldn't they take him? why shouldn't we want them to like him and take him with that #1? If they really like him there is no reason not to take him. That means they've cleared his past, his questionable influences from his father currently, and believe he can make the transition.

fwiw, the main reason i hope they like him is because that will mean that the team who hasn't had a bust in the first round in ?? years, esp. with an improved scouting department and in whom i have great confidence in has a chance of getting someone who can blow the doors off the league. You might define bust different than other people but they have a good record with talented guys, so you would have to trust their judgment. I just don't think they will come to that judgment.

if they see the true potential that he has and feel that they can help him reach it, we are due for some incredible things here in the carolinas. If Gabbert reaches his true potential, something that is likely to come quicker, we will also be due for some incredible things

very few doubt (even among his critics who aren't just haters) that the sky is the limit for newton and his ceiling is really high. if the panthers (who have a better grasp on things than any of us do) think he is worth that pick, why would that be a bad thing? No one is saying it would be under those circumstances it isn't a guarantee one way or the other how he will be, but the vote of confidence from the panthers who are a good judge of talent the vast majority of the time should mean some really good things for us, correct? 100% Correct

only the most unreasonable and/or stubborn of people would want us to stay away from him even if he can prove to be a special player. Agreed, it's just a matter of whether you think Carolina will come to that conclusion or not. We all see potential, some just don't think he'll reach it for whatever reason. I don't think Carolina will come to the conclusions you have, that's all.

I'm one of the major people being accused of being closed minded. Just shows how blind some of the homers are that they refuse to believe that someone can have concerns about a player and still be okay with them on the team.

Too many player fans here.

I would take Cam because he knows how to win (and in the SEC) and he doesn't like to lose. You need a guy leading your team that has passion and hates losing. Look at Jimmy Clausen...he played at Notre Dame and didn't exactly contend for a BCS title. Blaine Gabbert is also out of the question because he plays for Missouri...not a powerhouse. I will always take a leader from a proven winner than a "safe" mechanics first passer from a lesser school/conference.

I figured he was going to do well on the interview process. Lol, I bet JR really loved dudes "southern charm, yes sir no sir", as well. I'm at the point where I'm cool with him or Gabbert. I just want Rivera and the FO to address our biggest need, and that's QB.

I'm with Rayzor on this one. If the Panthers FO likes him and is willing to pick him #1 I would be exited but if it were me making the pick I would probably go Dareus because to me he is the safer pick (and still a large need). But I don't think even the worst Newton haters can deny the guy has more upside then anyone in the draft and could become the most successful.

All his problems on the field can be solved with the work ethic he has already established. Its all the off the field stuff that still concerns me.

Well this is why you sir, and Teeray for giving this nonsense post pie, will never truly understand the game.

You can have a team full of guys that won in college and I'll take a team full of guys that are ready to play in the NFL and I will smash the poo out of you every time. 100 times out of 100. It wouldn't be close.

Winning in college means as much as haircut style when it comes to NFL success.

God I hate new people.
