Cam "perfect" in combine interview

By this logic why is everyone writing off Clausen as a bust? I've always been saying that you can't judge a QB from their first season and that Matt Ryan/Bradford rookie seasons are rare.

Except Clausen was supposed to be "Pro Ready" and his learning curve was supposed to be small.

But I agree. Just wish Clausen had ANY flashes last season.

Yeah I'm not saying Clausen will be a good QB, and I know it was bad that he showed no progress. I'm just saying he was a rookie on the leagues worst offense on a team full of injuries at key positions. Can't judge a guy on that.

Yeah, but we have the #1 pick. We don't have to say anything about any of these players. All we have to do is keep them in the dark and let them come to us, if they want a player bad enough.

Am I the only one who understands this?

But if they think you aren't going to take a player because, for instance, you just took a QB in the second round last year and you haven't said anything about the top QBs this year, why would they try to work out a trade with you?

By showing interest you let teams know that if they DO want a particular guy they're going to need to trade to be sure they can get him.

Some are writing him off. Others like me are just not confident that he has the skill set to be a franchise guy. I hope I am wrong. But from terrible mechanics, to trouble with the playbook, to looking shell shock and scared, and have some personality issues with players there is little that screams potential to me.

I am fine keeping him but I think the position needs to be upgraded one way or the other. How that gets done is really not as important as getting it done in my opinion.

Its the information age and if you think your going to keep teams in the dark ages, it's not happening. Too many avenues for people to know information regardless. The best thing we could have is an absolute war going on for people wanting to draft him for his potential.

I don't exactly know what you're talking about, but it's pretty easy for the Panthers to not say who their pick is going to be. As long as people don't know that, then they will have to contact us first, if they want to trade up to #1. This is not rocket science.

What is hard to grasp about admitting there are multiple teams contacting you to drive up the price to get him if they want him #1? The Panthers may not publicly say who they are going to pick, but I guarantee you there will be people in the know around the league that will know who they are picking. If you don't believe so your only kidding yourself.

I don't know enough about this type of stuff so i should probably not say anything at all. But I will

I highly doubt that anyone will truly know who we are picking except the people in the Panthers war room.

I may be completely wrong, but I just don't see them showing their cards.

People can speculate by their actions but I doubt they would 100% know.

Its applicable to more than football. This is how many contracts get hashed out by upper management in the business world when competiting for services. Its part of the reason why corporate America sucks.

If teams are already contacting the Panthers about a trade in private, then why would they need to talk Cam up for the media? If you're right, then the Panthers already have them right where they want them and they don't need to leak anything to the media.

Personally, I believe that some of you are so afraid that they might actually pick Cam Newton, they you will conjur up any scenario that rules it out.

Did we invest a #1 overall pick in AE?

Armanti would not set this franchise back 4-5 years if he doesn't pan out. Gettis and LaFell looked alright. If you take Newton number 1 and he doesnt pan out, You will be set back 4-5 years at the minimum. Look at SF with Alex Smith, Titans/Young and all that drama that has ruined that franchise. Cam would be given atleast 3 years of playing if he was drafted #1. If he failed horribly, you would be set back by the number of years he started.

The kid is an absolute project. Maturity questions, Mechanics questions, Mayock grilled him and said how has to have more confidence in the guys infront of him rather than just taking off and running, and not once have you guys answered or said anything on why its okay for the kid to call his own plays going totally opposite of the coaching staff. If the kid fumbles the ball in the national title game after the coaches admited he called his own play, we wouldn't even have the discussion of him coming close to being drafted #1overall.

If a player is that bad then cut his ass. I dont know where people get this idea that a team is set back, maybe in the pockets but not the field. Its the coaches and GM that choose to stick with players too long or give them contracts that dont protect them if the guy sucks. If someone is garbage throw their ass out you dont have to be "set back". I dont care if it the 1st pick or not. When a player cant improve he should let go .

The same front office that hung on to Jarrett to long and had he not had a DUI, he'd probably still been here,.Foster when he could barely stay healthy and when we was guaranteed atleast one fumble a game? The same front office that got nothing in return for Peppers? Peppers contract and not negotiating a trade for something in return was crippling. Not preparing a QB for years to take over from Delhomme and then paying him the contract he got? Last I checked 2 of the big 3 players from all those decisions are still here.

If he's their pick, I'll support him as he is a part of my team that I like. I don't like all the questions he brings, but ultimately what can I do about it?

I find this hard to believe. I'd been reading that he was too athletic and stupid to do more than maybe print out his name with over-sized crayons. Maybe ****** a scout's wallet on his way out.

Going to need to call BS.
