Jenson's OTB: Panthers Source on Edwards, Clausen

Otherwise, the Bangal's would be trading Carson for essentially a 4th round pick. That ain't happening.

I don't know why those guys even started discussing swaps bc that wasn't even mentioned from his source about the price.

If you wanted to swap and get Carson it would take a swap this year, next year's first and this year's or next year's 3rd/4th.

Too high a price IMO.

Price isn't that high. Palmer is willing to retire which means the Bengals would get squat for him if they can't trade him. the Bengals can't play hard ball bc if they tell a team they need more for him......a team will just tell them to keep him.....which means they get nothing. Palmer being willing to retire ultimately means a team should be able to get him for less. Bengals r in a scenario where either they get nothing for him and he retires or get slightly ripped off

We swap firsts and give them a fourth.

And yes, I'd take that deal.

so a declining carson palmer is worth the first overall pick plus giving them a fourth lol. This is insane, there was talk with the bangels big wigs that he already was on the way out and they were looking to upgrade. Dispite that we give them a fourth? no deal.

No, Mr Scot feels he is worth the difference between the #1 & #4

spots (1200 points) and our 4th round pick (112). Essentially that means he is suggesting he is worth approximately the 10th overall pick.

Not saying I disagree or agree, but that is what he is saying.

I really don't understand why people fail to appreciate that when you swap picks, the value given up isn't the value of the pick, it's the difference...

F that draft chart. Is it worth 3 spots to get a QB who can probably immediately take our Offense from #32 to at least the mid to low 20s AND still pick up a player who is the best at their position with the #4 pick (Dareus, Green, Peterson, or Bowers). I say yes.

edit: and if you don't prefer Bowers (too much risk with the injuries, whatever reason) and the other 3 are already gone, some people still think Fairley could be a stud. I don't think he will be all that great, but he's a pick a lot of people would like.

Open competition between Cam and Clausen w/ a vet QB mentoring them is what I want anyway.

As far as Edwards just have to wait and see I hope he can contribute somehow with his speed on offense. We sure as hell could use something, anything useful to move the chains on that side of the ball.

There is virtually no chance that we draft Cam Newton.

The sooner that the nut-hugger bandwagon on here accept that the happier they will be.

I love how all the anti-Newton folks cling to the notion that he's not even being considered. I'm pro-Cam, but at least I understand that he's far from a slam-dunk to be our pick and am also looking at other options.

The idea that we're not even remotely interested is wrong to me. We're bringing him in for a visit, to meet with J.R., and Rivera has publicly said how much he likes him several times. I'm sure that just means "smoke screen" to the anti-Cam folks, but the fact that is he IS in play and the fact that you don't like him doesn't change that.

I would hate us taking Fairley OR Bowers, but I also realize that we ARE considering them. Along with Gabbert, Peterson, Dareus, Quinn, & likely Green.

I hope we do not draft Cam, but I think there is a strong possibility that we might. I said before that JR wouldn't touch Cam with a 10 foot pole, but my view has changed. Again, I hope we don't draft Cam, but the star power factor could prove to be a big deal. If JR is looking to put fans in seats, Cam will do that.

He is in there every day trying to get better, studying the position, even now (when he's in Charlotte). Source says Clausen is one of the toughest players on the team and claims he didn't complain once.
That's the money part of the entire message. I believe it's true, and it's why I believe that Clausen still has a bright future.

If we take Newton, then I think we're going to find ourselves in a potential Kolb/Vick situation. Clausen will start, and will show the league that he can play, and Newton will develop behind him. By the time Newton is ready to take over, Clausen will hopefully be worth something in trade.

Does anybody know the Browns (owners)? They will let him retire. They don't really care. They will call his bluff. If Carson continues to try and strong arm the Bengals they will dig in even deeper and just let him retire.

Plus, all I am saying is the "source" from Cincy didn't say swap picks and a 4th. He said it would take at least a 1st round pick and a 4th round pick.

I'm sorry guys swapping picks and a 4th ain't happening.

Cyber, I know we go back and forth a lot on this Clausen character but I have one question for you.....

Do you think Clausen can achieve whatever potential he has in any offense....the offensive scheme doesn't have an impact on what kind of success he can find?

I am not saying I 100% disagree w/ Clausen having potential ( don't think his ceiling is very high b/c he just doesn't have the physical tools)....I just don't get the reasoning of him having the same chance in any type offense. I would rate his chances for success vastly difference based on the offense he was in. Just curious of your take.

It was obviouse Fox had zero intest in Armanti and could care less about him. Even in an abysmal season, with a completely inept offense - he still refused to pretty much even suit the guy up on Sundays. And the few times he was, he barely made it onto the field.

When we drated Armanti, Hurney clearly stated that Armanti was a maybe on playing the first year and would start at punt returning. Which he stunk at.

Not fox's fault

    • 1st and 3rd LOL. They’ll be extremely lucky just to get a third.
    • He is nothing but a rotational piece, if that.  I don't believe he'd be worth the contract.
