One thing that really bugs me

There are sites where you can download entire game footage. You cut out commercials, halftime, wasted time between snaps, and half of the game (if you're just looking at one guy you only need to watch one side of the ball) and it goes really quickly. I can watch every snap a player takes during a game in about 30 minutes or so. Sure it's not exactly the same as the coaches tape but it's not far off.

So how do you successfully analyse WRs, CBs, Ss? OL/DL when the play goes the other way? QBs when you can't even see all the receivers?

With TV clips you can simply judge results of plays, not breakdown the play to determine how a player has done.

this was going to be my response about the comment of coming to conclusions based on watching games on TV..

This whole board is fuging hilarious. Everyone us either an armchair GM, armchair QB, armchair coach, or armchair expert flipping off at the mouth like THEY know the real deal and everyone else is wrong. I wish I didn't enjoy this site at times, as if I didn't I could never come back again and not skip a beat. Maybe I'm just getting older, but arguing and debating over every inch of this team is such a waste of time.

you're exactly right..........

There haven't been any safeties I've been specifically looking at lately though that might be tough. As far as QBs go I've pretty much given up on trying to figure out that position. I would say about 90% of the time you're able to keep track of a WR or CB throughout the entire play. You might only get a part of a play for them here and there but it hasn't really been much of a problem TBH. DL/OL not difficult at all.

If you want to see what happened then game tape is fine. But it still only tells you a piece of the story. If you want to know what was supposed to happen, who for example screwed up on an interception or ran the wrong route, or ignored a hot read for example, you need the tape and you need to sit down with a coach. Unless you know what was supposed to happen and understand why it did or didn't happen you still have only a small piece of the puzzle. There have been numerous occasions where there will be a you tube highlight or a poster will say he saw game tape about a situation and tell us all who was at fault only to find out a day later that a player will come out and say that it was his fault instead because he missed a hot read.

For example if as was said earlier today somewhere that FO executives were unhappy that Clausen had such a poor understanding of the playbook, how would game tape tell you that at all? It won't unless it is cut up and diagrammed to show what happened and what should have happened or what should have been called. It is like watching film of a car that is lost going up and down the road. Unless you know where they are supposed to go you have no idea whether they are doing what they are supposed to do or not. When they back up or reverse themselves you get a clue they are lost but still don't know where they should be going. THe same with watching TV or game film on TV. You get about 30% of what actually was going on.

TRD missed the part of this thread where it is established that youtube=/="tape".

Anyone investing the time to track down game tape, which IS NOT that simple to get, isn't going to be posting on this message board 18 hours out of 24.

I have access to actual game tape. I work in a nice office where some days I don't do poo so I post on here (okay fine most days). I don't know how to say what I want to say without sounding conceited or better than you so I'm not going to say it.

Some things can be judged on TV, such as footwork, release, etc but some things cannot.

Bottom line is no one is posting youtube clips and saying Cam is terrible. Only people who are loving Cam's dick are posting you tube videos.

People who have real concerns about him can dive deeper into plays and break them down one step at a time.

Ya'll are way too fuggin serious about the word "tape." You should be able to tell by the specifics of a person's post rather than the generalities that they have studied tape/film/games and know what they looking for.

Using arguments like Heisman winner and undefeated show that you have only seen youtube videos and don't understand much else.

LOL.

And I just met with Jerry Richardson and Ron Rivera. I told them we're drafting Newton, and that I expect to be at least 9-7 either this year, or next year if we had a lockout. After that I grabbed Morgan Fogarty (who was hanging out in Richardson's office in a PB bunny suit), and made out with her. I gave Steve Smith a high-five on the way out to my Lamborghini. Later, I'm going to jump on a private plane and fly out to the CBA meetings and bitch smack Smith, Goodell, and everyone else involved in the CBA dispute.

LOL what part of that didn't you believe? I have people that can verify every aspect of that, not that you are worth trying to prove anything to but just saying.

I thought you had me on ignore? Or do you just say that all the time to sound cool?
