This is as quiet/bunkered up I have ever seen the Panthers.

I'm expecting the panthers to stay quiet until the pappers/gross thing is resolved then attack with sudden excellence in trades/FA pickups. Does anyone else think Lucas should get another chance in a better D scheme with maybe a renegotiated contract before we just cut him?

I bet that is a big discussion right now between Meeks and Hurney. Deciding to cut him lose to save cap versus trying to salvage him and renegotiate the cap hit.

I suspect that all their time and energy is going into negotiating with Gross and looking at all the trade options for Peppers. Talking about those things publicly would only be counterproductive.

It would be nice to have a little more info on the coaching hires though.

Yes. Would it not be harder to work in a new guy than to use someone whos been around for a while? I mean, they know each other, they've been together (on the team) for a while, etc. I'm just speculating as I don't play in the NFL (obviously), so I wouldn't really know what the atmosphere is like.

How much are they paying him? Sorry, I'm not on top of the statistics (link me, tell me, whatever).

His salary is over 6 million.

Lucas won't get cut til Training Camp..(if he gets cut that is, i think restructure will happen though, probably an extension.)

Dante Wesley will probably get let go. This isn't a bad draft for CB in rounds 2-3.

Like last year, we will probably cut those who have /clearly/ dropped off. The DeShaun Fosters.. the Mike Wahles.. the Dan Morgans, the Justin Hartwigs. (Lucas hasn't clearly dropped off.. he had a great first half of the season.. and a not so good second half, say what you want.. but his regression isn't definitive just yet.)

I don't expect us to make a huge splash in free agency. Lately we've gone with a youth movement at positions we can afford to and a free agent pickup at positions we can't.

We're probably keeping quiet because we've got something planned out that they don't want leaked. Probably something big.

The Panthers aren't very explosive in the "public" department though... in my opinion, of course. This istaking into account national recognition, administration, etc.

I didn't say explosive. I'm saying it will surprise the fanbase but no one outside of it.

    • Did I miss something?  The people we have developing players now are not the ones we've had in the past so I don't know what the heck people are talking about when they say we are not good at developing players right now.  We only have one year to go on.  Canales likes young players or players who are on an upward trajectory, especially in FA this year.  Past QB's and what he's done with Bryce are good examples. Tershawn Wharton - 26 Tre'von Moehrig - 25 Pat Jones II - 26 Bobby Brown III - 24 Michael Jackson - 28 Jaycee Horn - 25 Tommy Tremble - 24 We missed on Milton Williams but he's 26. Everyone else we picked up are on 1 year deals.  The Panthers new front office and Canales absolutely scream developmental team. Pick 8 (stay) Tier 1 Elite - Abdul Carter, Travis Hunter and Mason Graham Tier 2 Elite - Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams, Will Johnson Trade down: There are quite a few really good players that fit us at Edge, DT, S and WR mid to late 1st and high 2nd.  Some combos that would be possible that I really like.  Imagine getting 2 of these guys by trading down. Stark, Pierce Jr, Golden, Scourton, Grant, Emmanwori, Ezeiruaku, Umanmielen, Deone Walker, Harmon and this is just off the top of my head.
    • Honestly, I couod see Pittsburgh  moving all the way to 3 to get Sanders. Their window is now and Tomlin  clock is ticking. Their roster doesn't have many holes, so picks shouldn't worry them.  Depends on the Giants mindset but they could bend them over and get future 1st since they don't have any 2nds.
    • I sometimes question why the mention height when most edge defenders are around 6'2.   Maybe it's bc he was a senior and then are nitpicking.
