Carson Palmer = Yes Please

I would love Palmer. I think a vet would be perfect. If he doesn't pan out it won't hurt nearly as bad as if one of these shaky prospects in the draft would, especially for the first pick. I say we still continue to draft QBs and I would like to see our first third one one if the 'guy' is there, I believe it would give us much needed time to find our franchise QB and it would give these young QBs someone to learn from. Added to the top of all that I doubt there is a better option at a QB and there is certainly not a better visible option that is closer to immediate success.

Palmer was clearly very unhappy in Cinci, that was probably a cause of his slump.

If it costs two first rounders or a first and second rounder; then if he doesn't pan out you could make the argument it actually hurts us more than drafting one.

Palmer for our #1 overall or #1 next year?

Hell no.

But I doubt he'll cost that much, what do you guys think he would cost? He might not even be let go, and I don't think he can just retire and come back.

In short, shut your pie holes, we would be fortunate to get Palmer.
because a team who has no franchise QB on the roster needs an over the hill QB well past his prime who has a bum arm and a giant contract.

my pie hole is staying open.

no QBs over 30...unless they will be just a backup.

team needs to get serious about finding a franchise QB. won't do it spending money on an old washed out and expensive QB like palmer.

so what do you propose? draft cam newton/ blaine gabbert and start him immediately?

what happens if/when he sucks? do we draft another QB next year?

Someone just called into to Frank & Moose on WFNZ and asked about McNabb vs. Palmer...

Frank says McNabb over Palmer = no brainer because he feels McNabb has more left in the tank.

Moose also says he would take McNabb before Palmer and he made a good point, he says he thinks it's a risk to sign Palmer because of the comments he made... he's got 80 million in the bank and would be happy to "live his life" so what would happen if it turned out he wasn't happy here either?

Side note: Moose says he's talked to high ranking officials in the Panthers org that feel the offense was limited by Clausen's inability to grasp the playbook and they are definitely looking for someone else.

1) we quit screwing around and spinning our wheels at QB.

only people who can be considered for the long term franchise QB job should be considered. that puts anyone over 30 out of the equation.

2) draft the best QB and get him started as quickly as possible. better to find out if he sucks sooner than later. we found out plenty about clausen, didn't we? speaking of gabbert, you look at gabbert under pressure and you see clausen. dude can't handle it. imo, newton is the best QB of this draft. i don't want to mess around with anyone after the first round. huge crapshoot for QB after that. just a waste of time overall. chances are very slim that you will find another drew brees or anything resembling an legit starter.

3) if we don't draft a QB this year, then only bring in younger prospects who have a shot at being a long term solution and let them fight it out with clausen and each other. the younger FA QBs out there aren't any worse off than the older ones. again, this is really tough to pull off and you most likely aren't going to be able to catch lighting in a bottle and have a drew brees fall in your lap.

still, the best chance any team has of getting their franchise QB is by drafting them and sometimes that means taking a risk. any team serious about getting a franchise QB will get them in the first round, which is the most likely place to find them.

worried about starting them right away? teams have figured out how to start them right away and put them in a situation that they can grow and win in. chances are low that we will have the same luck with someone we draft this year that we did with clausen. this will be a much better situation than he had and we'll be doing it with a better prospect. i don't expect playoffs in the rookie year (wouldn't be doing that anyway coming off a 2-12 season). i don't even expect a .500 season with one. i expect to see growth, improvement, growing confidence, learning the offense while the offense adjusts to your strengths and limitations, and an increasing chemistry with the team, esp. receivers and oline.

also, new coaches get their franchise QB soon after starting the job.

this team has been playing it safe and scared for too long. time to get serious about getting a franchise guy in here.
