Carson Palmer = Yes Please

Looking at NFLN last night LaCanfora said he heard from someone in their front office they wish him best in his retirement because they aren't trading him.

The arrogance and ego of Mike Brown cracks me up. His team sucks, has for years and Will for years to come if he doesn't change his ways.

LOL, heard that too... Mike Brown knows that if he starts giving into players demanding trades the Bengals won't have anybody left.

They should give Palmer a gold watch with an inscription on the back that says: "F%$K YOU"

So you would honor a contract to a team run by that moron. If I had 80 mil in the bank I would rather retire then play another down for the Bungals as well....

He signed a contract. He should honor it. What about his teammates? Its not like he played even average last year. He's just not in a position to make demands like this which is why Im not surprised the Bengals are laughing and telling him "go retire".

He had an 83 QB rating for the season and was sixth in the league in passing yardage. I would say he played decently under the circumstances in Cincy....

How can you claim you love the game, but willing to retire because you want a trade.that's a bitch move.

Would you say that about barry Sanders? He did basicaly the same thing. He wanted out of Detroit but knew that would never happen.. So he retired before his time...

NFL players are slaves to their contracts....indentured servants if you will.....:p

In all seriousness, a player is drafted and if they are good, then a couple years later the team looks to secure the player with a longer contract, some players are smart enough to hold out when they are young and wait to become free agents after serving their time with the team that drafted them, but many times the contract to stay is too good and the player is a restricted free agent, so they sign again. The next thing you know you're Palmer's age and you have played your entire career for a losing team, you want to move on, but you are tied to a contact that is basically a football "life" sentence. If Palmer fullfills his contract, his career will pretty much be over when the contract expires, that is if the team even keeps him that long without cutting him.

What is so wrong with asking for a trade? Look at how teams cut players left and right when they are under contract. Yeah, I know they pay them, but once you're used up you're used up. If Palmer wants out, then get fair market value for the guy and rebuild your team.

Exactly. That's really the biggest problem. Where ever he goes the contract must be restructured.

Palmer made clear in his statement that he's financially set for life and now just wants to play for a good organization and for love of the game. Contract would not be an issue. Neither would trade terms if Brett Jensen's source is correct. The only obstacle is Marvin Lewis has to convince Mike Brown to be willing to part with him. Who knows? The number one overall pick might just turn out to be enough incentive to do it.

The NFL has looked into the Bengals situation more than once. Between taxpayer lawsuits and other things, it's been suggested that the league needs to do something about it because otherwise the team will be stuck in a perpetual cellar.

Can't see it happening though. They'd likely worry about setting a bad precedent.

Still, you have to wonder if there'll eventually be a breaking point.

Didn't Mike Brown turn down two 1st round picks from the Redskins for Ochocinco when he was trying to force a move? If he says he isn't going to trade him I believe him. And even if he was traded why would he want to come here to a team that is young and rebuilding? You'd imagine he would push for a move the the 9ers given that he is a local. I'd love it but I just think it's very unlikely.
