Notice, he left out the weights. Cam was pretty darn quick in those cone drills, considering he outweighs most of those guys by at least 20lbs. That's why Mayock, among others, are comparing him to Big Ben.

Weights are listed too. He outweighs no other QB listed by 20 pounds.

You guys know I am a Cam guy but I am pretty impressed with Gabbert's athleticism. Didn't expect him to do as well in that part of the combine.

I agree. And I can tell you that I was also surprised by Ponder's speed and hand size.

Colin Kaepernick threw harder than Mallet (read that he had the throw with the highest velocity, which is consistent with the scouts at the Senior Bowl.

I would also add that Cam did nothing at the combine to hurt himself, but he should have done a lot to help himself. I was surprosed that the other QBs are about as athletic as he is. A guy under the microscope like he was cannot be compared fairly to the others. He was probably shaken from the interviews and press conferences. I still do not want him, but the reasons are not due to his passing performance or even his icon comment.

Oh, and Mallett is about as unathletic as they come from the arms down.

Yeah...Locker looked more athletic than Mallett...but honestly I've given more looks to the D-linemen, DBs, than I have any of the QBs.

Newton certainly didn't do anything to show that he's on a different level than anyone else. He looks like everyone else. Gabbert has to come out of this as the #1 QB option.

Without throwing? Can't do it. Unless teams can get enough from film and pro day. Still a lot to gamble on with 1st overall.

I think Gabbert's performance makes Cam's athleticism less significant, so whilst Cam did nothing to hurt his stock, Blaine closed the gap in physical prowess.

So physically there isn't quite as much as people believe, however the consensus amongst scouts is that Blaine is the better passer (I haven't seen Blaine play so can't comment).

I see it this way: Gabbert was rated #1 going into the combine. I expected Cam to knock the scouts' socks off and rise above the others. He didn't. I think Gabbert's plan worked. I would say he is clearly ahead of Newton and will probably remain there until his pro day. At that time, he seals the deal or blows it.

    • After the Chiefs game a 6'5 X would really help in the Red zone. I would also love to add Slayton in FA
    • But again, you can restock a defense through free agency much easier than offensive skill positions. Spend all our cap space on defense, take a true elite prospect who also happens to fit a position of need in T-Mac, and then use the rest of our picks on defense. Again, every season there’s a smattering of great DL, LB, and DB options in free agency, a Top 10 WR never hits free agency, ever.  The only way you get one is through the draft or giving up 1st round picks in a trade for one. If he’s there when we’re on the clock, he has to be the pick, he’s just that good.
    • It must be an early Christmas for JT O'Sullivan having Thielen back so he could put a coal in Thielen's stocking every chance he gets.  Honestly, the biggest surprise is not so much the anticipation. There were those moments here and there last year as well. It's that even that one positive quality he had seemingly vanished his first two games to where it looked like it was all but over, only for it to start coming back some until you get exclamation points all over this game film. And some of those throws were under a lot of duress, something I feel is something new. Finally, those deeper shots are starting to land. Not all of them, but enough that defenses may have to start respecting them. No guarantees whether this will end up as more of anomaly but I certainly hope it isn't. The Green Bay game was a sampler of what BY could be. Against KC, we got a meal. If we could start getting these meals regularly, we might actually have something to work with here.
