Sheriff's homicide detectives searched today for a man who a witness says shot another man who refused to give up his medical marijuana.

A 55-year-old man was killed in his mobile home inside Imperial Village in the xxxxx block of Imperial Highway, near Studebaker Road, at 5:38 p.m. Monday, Deputy Lillian Peck of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau ;said.

An unidentified intruder came into the home when the man was smoking medical marijuana and demanded that he give him the the marijuana, the victim's stepson, Ernesto Gutierrez, told a video cameraman.

Gutierrez apparently was in the home at the time of the shooting, but did not know the intruder.

The Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau still was investigating and would not confirm the cause of the shooting, Deputy Benjamin Grubb said.

The man who was shot was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Peck said.
