Good comment on Gettis/LaFell's stats & production from last year

Recommended Posts

Gettis has the potential to be a top WR. He's just inexperienced and still a little raw physically as well but he has all the talent in the world to be a great WR. LaFell was really impressing me at the end of the year too. He has some very deceptive speed too.

I was really surprised towards the end of the year with LaFell. I watched him at the beginning of the year & he dropped some easy ones but made wonderful catches at the end of the year. Gettis was kick ass every now & then, especially during the game we actually won with Moore

And this is why taking AJ Green would be a waste of a #1 pick. Green would be a great player, yeah, but it would mean bumping Steve/Gettis/LaFell all down a notch, and we wouldn't be able to use the skills that we have with them as often. In other words, we'd be wasting talent we already have.

It'd be much smarter to go defense.

the bulk of their production came in the few quarters Clausen wasn't on the field.

That's completely untrue. I broke it down a while back, the only WR who suffered was Smith whereas Gettis and LaFell had the exact same percentage of targets, catches and yards to when Moore was in.

It is true. Most of the production from WRs came in the few quarters Clausen didn't play. You broke it down wrong and then are trying to spin it.

Clausen played in 13 games and started 11. They shouldn't be similar numbers. Moore and BSP only played in only a FEW quarters on the season in comparison to Clausen.

Example:

David Gettis - 508 yards, 3 TDs.

In 2 games Clausen DID NOT see the field Gettis had 217 yards and 3 TDs. There were ONLY 5 games Clausen didn't see the field. THE MAJORITY of Gettis' yards and ALL of his TDs were achieved in the few quarters Clausen did not play. That means the majority of Gettis production was achieved in a small window Clausen didn't play.

The production is night and day different. Look at the production per game from WRs in games Clausen didn't get a chance to bring the team down. WRs made plays and a lot of them.

receptions in Fox's offense is not a sign of production. Gaining yards and getting in the endzone is WR production. Gettis' highlight day w/ Clausen (who got the most starts)was 42 yards, no scores. Gettis more doubled that highlight day yardage and got into the endzone w/ the other 2 QBs who started games.

I think a lot depends on Smith and the Panthers' intentions with him. If he wants out, he could be keeping quiet to keep from burning bridges until after the CBA. If the Panthers know this, will they draft a WR early? There are some free agents, but they are oft injured, old, or head cases (combos too).

Gettis and Lafell are not #1 WRs, and Edwards has potential and nothing more. Heck, Smith is not a #1 WR, he just plays one all year.

I didn't spin it any way. I actually went through each and every throw, believe it or not. This had to be done as there were several games where we had 2 QBs, sometimes even three playing. I had to ensure who was throwing each pass.

You are wrong.

I have noticed you have changed the topic though. The thread was talking about basic production, catches, yards, targets and TDs. Targets, catches, and yards had almost exactly the same percentage per throw from the QB bar obviously TD.

You are now saying the WR's as a whole, which I pointed out Smith saw a decline in production. Gettis and LaFell however did not.

Okay. David Gettis. Break him down to show otherwise. You putting an emphasis on targets and receptions. Gettis' production (yards and TDs) was simply better and MOST of his production did come from when Clausen wasn't on the field DESPITE Clausen getting the overwhelming majority of playing time. Targets aren't production and in a play action offense like Foxs yardage and scores mean more than receptions.

Clausen played a full 11 games for crying out loud. Gettis almost produced the same yardage in 2 games when Clausen was on the bench in comparison to Clausens 13 games and 11 starts.

We all know all TDs came in the brief windows Clausen didn't play......so we can put that aspect to rest. Only thing really to debate is yards.....
