I've never seen the 3 original star wars movies...

I think that watching Star Wars now would be boring to a lot of people, because everyone is used to post MTV ADHD cutting. The opening Star Destroyer scene set the tone for the whole movie in a way people were absolutely unprepared for, but these days kids would be thinking, "OK, when are all the hundreds of fighters going to come out of the ship?" three seconds into the shot.

When Star Wars came out, people felt that the pacing was frenetic, but it's pretty slow by todays standards.

In this way it's kind of like Gone With the Wind or Steamboat Willie - yeah they indroduced a whole new era of filmmaking that everything else is based on, but the methods are taken for granted now.

this also explains the polarization of long time fans of the original trilogy and the prequels... Technology improved in our world, but it supposedly was more primitive in the prequel world...

Me personally, I'm a fan of the prequels just because I'm a fan of pretty much anything related to Star Wars... Do I think they are as good as the original trilogy? HELL NO... but they are Star Wars canon, nonetheless...

What makes the originals so hard to watch now is what we were so willing to overlook 30 years ago, they are poorly written and acted. Don't get me wrong, they are near and dear to my heart in every possible way but in the same vein, I wouldn't love a child any less just because it was retarded.

Lucas never could write dialog and if he ever filmed an actor expressing any real emotional depth the world would fall off of its axis. Its almost as if actors were not given the script and read from cue cards during the entirety of filming.

Too make sure I'm heard, I love all 6 of them. They deserve to be counted as part of the foundation of Sci Fi as much as Asimov or Heinlien but God they are bad movies.

bad movies?!?!?? smh... just smh...

Revolutionary... Epic... Historical... Trend-setting... yes...

Yes to all of those but if you don't want to kill Mark Hamill by the time the get to Mos Eisley you don't have a pulse. The acting is so bad its painful.

The acting and dialog are horrible!

I will have no further part in this heresy!

His naivety was a part of his character development, and I don't think he has ever claimed to be one of the best actors in the history of movies... lol...

Take Obi-Wan and Han Solo... Those characters are rarely replicated in today's film work... and at the time, were epic...

Add me to the list of people who has never seen more than 5 minutes of a star wars movie.... However, I think I am going to go on amazon and order all 6 to sit down a watch for the first time ever... I need to see what I've been missing.

I'd go 1-6 so you can get over the cheeziness of 1 and 2 by the time 4 and 5 come around...

Or, you can go retro and do 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3...

Yea, I did a little research.... I read arguments for both sides, and I decided to go 4-5 then 1-3. Seems like there are major events in 4-6 that are more shocking or impacting if you have not seen 1-3. I think I'm tired of all the star wars references and never being able to understand... Maybe I will even look forward to SWTOR video game after this.

      I like how they were about to punt the ball right before the two minute warning before being like... oh fug, this'll be too obvious we gotta try a FG then ole boy skulls one that never got more than about 12 feet off the ground. LOL!
