Mayock and Mora Jr. Say Panthers Need QB With #1 Pick

Yeah, you can't get any more dominant than Cam was in college. He carried Auburn on his back all season long. I can't remember who it was now, but somebody stated that he was farther along as a QB than Vince Young was coming out of college.

Also, wasn't there a tread about VY a while back that had quotes from his teammates who said he still didn't know the playbook, even after 3 years?

Starting him week 1 will be a huge mistake.

He will probably win a few games, but his development as a QB will be stunted, as he will be playing on instinct (to run) rather than on good practice.

Give him the first year off, get him working hard on his footwork, his preparation and the mental side of the game and he might be about ready in the 2nd year.

Look at any sport that requires certain skill sets (tennis, golf etc) and as soon as you are under pressure old tendencies start to creep in. this is only exemplified when you are making adjustments to your game, as you are thinking faster than your limited training can keep up. the result is the instincts coming in again.

He needs proper practice to be fed into his game so that it becomes his instinct, otherwise he will be tucking and running more often than not.

I agree. I was just trying to once again accurately explain how bad Clausen is in a vertical passing attack.

If they draft Cam a vet should start the majority of the season and only insert Cam if they feel he is ready for live experience and then only if the team isn't competing for a playoff spot. There is tons of talent in Carolina...much more than people on this board give credit thanks to the Fox/Clausen clusterflizuck resulting in 2 wins. A decent vet could have this team competitive........we couldn't compete for a spot if everyone in the division was 100% healthy though. But this is the NFL and you can never predict how anything plays out.

Another Cam support who would give Cam seasons to develop....but will discard Clausen after being thrown to the wolves on a bad team.
