Are you actually telling me that out pass was not on time and on target? It hit his WR right in the gut with a defender all over him. You can't get any more accurate than that.

Sure, if he's aiming for his gut but on that pattern the ball needs to be thrown to the sideline. The defender was beat badly but since the ball was thrown to the inside and the receiver had to slow down, it gave the defender the chance to get back into the play. If he leads him to the sideline, the receiver likely runs away from the safety and makes a big play, instead it's only a first down and in the NFL that ball is picked off.

Here's the way it works...

If you're picking #1 overall, you're doing it because your team sucks. If your team sucks there's a good chance that you don't have a franchise QB. It's virtually impossible to make it to the Super Bowl in today's NFL without a franchise QB. With that said, if you're sitting there at #1 and you feel that there is a franchise QB in the draft then you have to take him. QB is by far the most important position in football.

Now the question becomes, is there a franchise QB in the draft? I don't know. That's the (multi)million dollar question.

Sure Bradford was accurate, he almost never had to throw the ball farther than 10yds in college or the pros. Those are very high percentage passes.

Bradford CAN make the throws though. He's proven it whenever given the opportunity. Spags chose not to let Bradford throw down field often because it was better for the team since Bradford was still learning.

Newton hasn't proven he is even half as accurate as Bradford is.

Yes he can. I was there live when he played the Broncos in Denver. That kid slung the ball all over the field and every single ball was right on the money. I came away from that game convinced that Bradford is a future star.

Sure, Denver's defense is putrid, but man, that kid was just money. Those receivers he was throwing to weren't open half the time. He was throwing them open and they didn't even have to break stride. Simply money.

Look at the 4th and 3 play at about the 2 minute mark...he throws that same out pass that he struggled with at the combine, except it's to the left, and he puts it right on the money in tight coverage. He also completed a lot of crossing routes, but people keep ignoring that for some reason.

So? That doesn't change the fact that in a highlight reel the number of impressive passes can be counted on one hand. That partiular pass you picked out wasn't exactly perfectly thrown either, so I am unsure at your point here.

Also, how do you figure that SEC defenses are small? Where do you think a lot of these NFL players are coming from in the first place?

My goodness some people have a misguided opinion of SEC defences. Look at any team in the SEC, where there are numerous guys ranging from 20-23. Now look at an NFL team here players have had 5-6 seasons of conditioning and off-season strength programmes. To even think it's comparable is asinine.

There is a reason most 4-3 DEs under a certain weight are moved to linebacker in the NFL, with light DTs moving to DE etc. It's because the NFL, across the board, is bigger, faster and stronger than any college defence.

I never said he couldn't make all the throws, but it is a hell of a lot easier to have a high completion percentage when you're throwing high percentage passes.

As for Cam, his WR's were average at best and he completed 67% of his passes, and he threw a lot of deep balls. I haven't seen much better than that by any QB in any system.

Very good piece of analysis, problem is, we should all know this already :D. At least we finally get an analyst who's taking a decisive stance on Jimmy.

We do need a franchise QB, but if you're not sure if anyone's that guy, you don't pick him. Pretty simple, but still too complicated for huddle logic it seems.

I'm not talking about stats or completion percentage. I'm talking about how accurate his passes actually look. Newton shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as Bradford. The only thing they have in common is they came from the spread.

I'll take a QB who can consistently throw the ball with excellent accuracy even if it's short/medium passes over a QB who has a huge arm but has below average at best accuracy. Not exactly difficult to hit a lot of deep throws when his receivers are literally 10+ yards behind the DB's because of the system they ran.

Bradford is a great thrower. Newton has a LOT of work before we can say that about him. All I'm saying is Bradford/Newton is a horrible comparison.

Jimmy may develop into a decent starting QB in the NFL, but I think if he had the potential to develop into a franchise QB we would have seen more flashes of that this past year.

Folks often bring up Aikman as an example of how a QB can suck his rookie year and still develop into a franchise guy, but they forget Aikman posted a 300+ yard game during that 1-15 season his rookie year.

I'm not saying we should give up on him, but I also don't think we should sit around and wait on him... regardless of who we draft, we need to get a vet QB (see my sig).
