Just something to keep in mind....

I was listening to Pat Kirwin today and he was talking about Carolina and the quarterback position. He favors looking at someone in the draft and perhaps in free agency. In response to a caller asking about whether Clausen was going to be answer he said he talked to someone in the Panther front office at the combine (wouldn't say who) but when Pat him why he would be looking at another quarterback after drafting three last year, the quip was the only problem with that is we should have drafted 4 since the 3 we drafted all were pretty bad.

Jim Miller who was there as well said it is still too early to be certain since it takes 2-3 years for the light bulb to fullly go on, but he wonders if Clausen has the skills to be that guy.

Problem means nothing but I wonder in private if they are as high on Clausen as they are in public.

Just sayin...................

In regards to how much interest the Panthers are showing to choosing a QB overall #1. Rivera/Hurney have not looked for someone to talk to about Cam Newton. The only reason Newton is in the dialogue is because that is what the reporters are asking about.

"Ron, what do you think about Cam Newton"

"Well, I think he is a tall kid and looks like a lot of the recent successful QB picks."

Headline: "Rivera speaks highly of Cam Newton"

Actual Headline "Rivera answers a specific question on Cam Newton with kind words"

I highly doubt we pick a QB at #1 at this point. I would say 90% chance we do not.

Do they not have the interwebs? Have they not watched college football? He's been on the radar for a long time and been scrutinized for you by the NCAA and ESPN. Who doesn't know about Cam Newton?

The Panthers keep everything close to the vest. Poker face the whole way. Research is key.

This is a QB driven league, and we don't have one. Ask the Dolphins if they'd still take Jake Long, a potential HOF LT, or Matt Ryan, only a top 10-15 QB. The Fins would be a likely playoff team with Ryan and ATL definitely wouldn't with Long at tackle and Redmond at QB.

Long was always the SAFE pick and Ryan a question mark. I don't care if any of the DL/DE are surefire HOFers, they won't get us to the playoffs. If the FO believes that Gabbert/Newton can be a top 10-15 QB, they MUST pick one.

I think if we decide to pick a QB, it will be Gabbert. The reason being that he seems to be the top choice of someone you can bring in, will be humble, will absorb everything that you throw at him, and while it may not show the first day or whatever, but he seems to be the guy that could come into the huddle and be the leader that this team needs behind center. I know that his college numbers may not be the best but I believe that becomes a moot point once he steps onto an NFL field. He has the intelligence to learn and apply the information that is given to him and I believe he would be the best option to grow into an NFL caliber QB. He could suck and that is true for everyone else as well. I really can't believe that I am saying this because in the beginning when all the QB talk came up, Gabbert was the last person I thought the Panthers would go for.

I do not have any faith in Scam. I am sure he will make some great highlights and get favre/bonds/clemmons type run on the 4-letter at first but I do not like him for what we do.

He is never going to be a Panther. It just does not fit.

Why doesn't he fit? We need a QB. He has tons of potential and looks to have the tools to be in a vertical attack.

Keep in mind we currently employ one of the biggest a holes in the entire NFL. We have also drafted guys who sang songs about banging chicks in the ear and what not that hit the air waves right before the draft. We have also gone out and picked up "me" players with the thought they fit holes to help us win.

The Dolphins are a perfect example of how hard it can be to find that franshise QB if you have a "wait til next year" mentality. How long have they been trying to replace Marino now? How many QB's have they passed on since he retired, because they thought he wasn't worthy of the pick?

I would hate to be having this same debate about the Panthers chances of landing a franchis QB 3-4 years from now...which would probably be happening with yet another new coaching staff, BTW.
