LMAO at the haters. and madhatter the drill was for them to throw to a spot and not a wr, so having 50% completions really doesnt matter.

So I guess the spot for the out route was on the sideline...because that is where he put the ball.

He was throwing way over the WR's heads.

Make excuses if you like. But yesterday was a VERY poor showing by Newton.

Wow, what a classy team mate and leader this guy is going to be. I wonder...how would Smitty take to this guy saying his QB issues were Steve's fault if Cam was a Panther?

there is some truth to it. you can just throw random WRs on a field and expect timing to be on.

that said, this is a witch hunt article trying to spin and create a story out of a pretty normal comment.

Your the one making excuses just to hate on him. Your supposed to throw out routes high... If you dont you get what we had last season with Jimmy Jam. Out route was low, short, and picked off. No one expects QBs to be spot on at the combine when they are throwing to WRs that they have never met. Most teams just want to see how a kid handles the pressure and to watch is mechanics. Blane Gabbert hurt his stock way more by not throwing at the combine then Cam did throwing.

Not really a very poor showing.... was it good... no it wasn't. It was ok, it showed he had arm strength and could throw the deep ball and needs to work on his footwork when he's dropping back...

Which everyone knew going into that drill.. on top of that the completion percentage for the drill means notta.

You have to be kidding me.

Are you actually saying that Cam's throws on the out route were good? He was throwing 10 feet over the WR's head.

I have seen nut huggers on here....but your comment and excuse above takes the prize.

Did not seem to bother any of the other QB's throwing yesterday.

Man, the excuses are getting more and more on here.

I am sure all QBs had issues to some degree throwing to guys they were completely unfamiliar with.

Cam threw high. Not a big deal. Better than throwing it off and to the inside.

Don't agree.

His throws were nowhere near the target. He was throwing 10 feet over the WR's heads.

We can disagree on whether his performance is a big deal or not...agreed.

But not seeing and accepting that his throws were sub-par is plain ridiculous.

I am not hating on the guy. If we had a mid 1st round pick and he were there....take a chance. However, he is nowhere near worthy of the #1 pick. And, neither is Gabbert for that matter.

Poor group of QB's in this draft....it is as simple as that.

His deep throws were really nice, corner routes the same.

Yes he bombed and threw poorly on the outs, a timing route... he didn't have his timing down the whole drill... it was easily noticeable.

So his combine drill was ok, definitely not poor by any means. (unless you just count the out route throws. You can't say that the QB with the best looking long ball and throw on a corner route had a poor showing overall.

He just showed everyone what we already knew. He needs to get his footwork in order on his drop backs... He gets that fixed and you don't see those balls sail that high..... That route is all about timing and his drop back timing to the routes was off.

However he (according to reports) blew teams away with his chalk board and coverage reading ability in team meetings.

I am just not sold on him at #1 and as a franchise QB. I see too many ?? in his skillset and performance.

However, if the coaches believe they see a franchise QB in him and that he is worthy of the #1 pick.....I will support him and cheer for him wholeheartedly.

I have no personal vendetta against the guy, or wish to see him fail. I just don't feel confident taking a guy like him (with so many ??) at #1....and then not picking again until the 3rd round.

But then again....what the hell do I know about evaluating NFL talent.
