So in Episode III...

I don't think Lucas really thought about it. I try to forget the new 3 exist

haha yea really. For the sake of argument I think Mace definitely beat him because Sith are supposed to be evil and selfish. On the other hand, if he knew making Anakin his apprentice was the only way to make his domination complete, would he risk burning himself and death to reach his final goal? toughy

They were incorrect about their assumptions of Anakin/Vader... He was supposed to be the ONE to bring balance to the Force, but he wasn't...

Therefore, AT BEST, he was equal to or lesser than Sidious all along...

Windu was basically the Jedi equivalent of Vader... Equal to or lesser than Yoda, so any match up against a Sith of equal power would have a chance of ending either way... Kinda like the unstoppable force meets immovable object in The Dark Knight...

What defeated Windu was the transformation of Anakin, making the odds stacked against him in an unforeseen circumstance... Remember what Yoda said on numerous occasions... The future itself is difficult to see, and it is uncertain...

No no Vader had the potential to be the most powerful ever but after his bath in lava his power dropped to less than or equal to Sidius as you put it. That's how the midichlorian logic goes. This is why I think Sidious foresaw his injuries. Either that or he saw a grander vision of the Sith, bigger than himself. Which would explain how much Sidious talked of how powerful Anakin was, slobbering about how he would be "stronger than either of us". He said that to Yoda

He lost that potential when he gave in to his anger and fear... Therefore, one can adequately say that he never really had it, as he was emotional even as a child...

Sure, he may have been a manifestation of the Force itself (immaculate conception from Shmi/pure midichlorian), but his human side kept him in check his entire life...

If anything, Sidious saw much potential in him, much like Yoda also saw, but in the end he was not the one to fulfill the prophecy permanently... This is impossible anyways, as you can't have an alter-universe with no opposing forces to write about if it was only Jedi surviving... Good marketing by Lucas!

Had Anakin not been injured in that fight on Mustafar, I'm entirely convinced he would have become the most powerful force wielder ever...he was well on his way before hand. You want to talk hypothetical situations? Does anyone else think Anakin/Vader would have won that fight had he not been reckless?

Oh, and Windu totally bitch-smacked the emperor.

Yeah, that's true... Obiwan was more experienced and was also very powerful, but really no match for Anakin's force skill... I think Lucas just wanted the fight over... and used Anakins rage to give it a silly ending.

I also noticed watching it again last night that they never showed how Yoda and Sidious got separated the first time during their fight when Sidious was throwing the platforms at Yoda... that fight was better than the Vader/Obiwan fight, but he took a lot of shortcuts and just like the rest of the movie it could have been a ton better

Anakin was more talented, but not as wise or experienced. Talent wise I think he could have taken Windu at the time.

And to the previous post, whether someone is good or bad(sith) does not determine force potential or power. I guess you could say it was an emotional weakness or an intangible he lacked but potential/talent wise he was on his way to the top.

It's like saying Mike Vick is the most talented QB in the football, but is he the best?

I wish they never brought Dooku into the story. I thought his character was totally lame. I would have liked to have seen Maul vs Obi-wan end in a draw and have Anakin vs Darth Maul in the Revenge of the Sith. I think it would have also given more depth to the sith apprentice vs jedi relationship. Instead of having guys be constantly replaced.
