Gabbart and Mallet clearly the top two QB's

Why do you think that? I think he gets more of a one year deal and I don't think it'll be an issue. I think the FO likes him more than the fans (shocking) and they want to bring him back. He wants to be back.

I think he could get a 3-4 year deal worth 10-14mil which would be CHEAP for a backup QB and highway robbery if he turns out to be a starter.

They could do that but in that scenario they would likely cut Clausen and I think they want to keep Clausen a while longer and he is already under contract for 3 more years I think. The whole reason we didn't give him 3 years last off-season is bc we were giving him a one year audition. He failed. That might be his fault or Davidson's fault but I don't see us making a long term offer on a guy they aren't sure about. Even if we cut him next year some of that salary will count against our cap.

Or that he got tagged and had no choice, just like VJax did and countless other players. They weren't auditioning.

They also don't have to cut Clausen if they sign Moore. They can bring in Moore/Clausen/Volek and just cut Pike and really it not be an issue. Even if they cut Clausen it wouldn't be a big deal, he's only making 2mil over the next 3 years so it's not like it'll be a huge hit or wasted investment. 3-4 years at 3-4 mil a year is not long term and you will pay more for most any B out there as a backup and for sure as a starter. Whitehurst never played a down and got 2 years 10 mil AND they had to trade for him. Would you rather take your chances on something like that?

What I meant was that the Panthers tagged him to give him one year to prove himself. He didn't.

Don't forget that I am agreeing with you that I would like for us to re-sign him. I just don't think from what we have seen that we are willing to make a multi-year commitment when Clausen is already on the hook. they will likely offer him a one year contract and let him decide.

They are bringing in another QB whether through the draft or not so re-signing him isn't a necessity and they will only do it if they think he can become a legit starter. They won't sign him for 3 years to be a back up while Jimmy is under contract.

They might. I just doubt it. But out of all the FA we see out there there aren't a whole lot better than Moore.

So backups only get 1 year deals? I'm confused by your thinkign. He's a backup QB that has potential to be the starter and he only gets one year deal when other, pure backup QBs, have deals for more than one year?

I don't know what they are going to do but I don't expect them to offer him a one year deal.

I would venture to say that Moore is the best realistic option out there (except via trade) due to his age, potential, attitude, professionalism, and history. Plus he seems like a good fit with the philosophy of the new coaching regime due to his style of play and his history with people connected to our new staff.

Who the fug knows though
