Cam Newton looked “terrible” during his Scouting Combine workout

The same people who were saying how great Cam will be because of his private workout are the same ones here discounting his performance at the Combine.

Can't have it both ways.

Why not?

Cam practiced with the receivers in his Media workout a couple weeks before he had it. He had an opportunity to get their timing in sync.

In the Combine, he was throwing with cats he met a couple days ago. They might not have had a feel for his release timing. Or maybe the receivers he was throwing to were slower than he's used to. There's a ton of factors in it.

In fact, in one video I watched, he threw a perfect ball to the sidelines, but the receiver was about 3 steps from the sideline marker and didn't even reach out for the catch.

“I underestimated the timing aspect of playing quarterback,” Newton said. “You had receivers from the SEC, the SWAC, the MAC. … I was somewhat frustrated, but at the same time, I was having fun out there/

(P.S. HATS OFF to Marshall Faulk for defending Cam's comments)

There was a break down on his performance on NFL.com by Steve Mariucci and Brian Billick too. They really didn't say anything negative about it. In fact, if I recall, they said any issues he showed he might have can be addressed by coaching and training.

How many issues of the QB can't be addressed by coaching and training?

It's sad that you have to attack the credibility of everyone who says anything slightly less than positive about Cam to prove your point that he should be the #1 pick.

And you haven't attacked anybody's credibility when it comes to Cam?

BTW, Mayock just said again today, that if the Panthers think that Newton or Gabbert can be franchise QB's then they should take one of them. He has also said more than once that he believes Cam is a top ten talent.

The only point here is that the way a player looks in combine throwing drills is not the only determinant of success in the NFL.

But you know what? He still did not look good. This is not just "haters" talking. His QB coach basically said the same thing. He did have some nice go route throws but he looked awful in other areas from what I saw. Sure, he was missing in the right area (high), but that doesn't mean it was good he missed... just that it was good he didn't miss low.

His stock wasn't hurt but it was NOT helped by Sunday.

I have said he struggled on the out routes many times. NFL netwok didn't show any of the seam routes or inside hitches 12yds and 17 yds that he actually excelled at. He was also very good on the go and corner routes.

The only drill he royally fugged up were the outs. And there weren't a lot of clean throws in that drill by anyone. A lot of the throws from the other QB's were low and behind. Guys may have caught them, and they got credit for a completion, but you and I know they weren't good throws.

I never pretended that he was on point, just that the completion percentage is worthless.

He had some good throws and some bad ones. The really bad ones were on the ones I would have expected. I wish he didn't throw them in the third row, :D but I figured that would be the route he would struggle the most with.

Other than that we agree. I didn't hurt him but it certainly didn't help. That is why there is a pro day.

I don't attack credibility because it's a dumb argument that people on here use to often. Everyone has an opinion but some arguments are dumber than others, like using the Heisman argument.

I don't know why the second part is news. If the Panthers thought that Newton or Gabbert could be "franchise" QBs and they said they weren't going to take them, that would be newsworthy. Plenty of people who have been labled "Cam Haters" have said the exact same thing but you guys don't want to comprehend that part.

Somethings are a lot harder than others. Footwork is one of the easier ones.

I would rather see a QB like Cam and his problems than a Kaepernick and his problems.

Don't get me wrong I really like Kaepernick but those type of throwing mechanics are the things that are really hard to fix.

So if the Panthers do think they are "franchise" QBs you are cool with them picking one of them??? :p:p

Agreed but Cam DOES have an issue with accuracy and that is very difficult to fix. Footwork is not as easy as people think. He also needs to work on shifting his weight before his throws.

Who knows about the X's and O's aspect of it.
