Cam Newton looked “terrible” during his Scouting Combine workout

how did he do at the combine?

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-combine/09000d5d81e84228/Newton-discusses-his-combine

deals with the the passing part of it, mayocks thoughts on it and mayock asking about about his one read and run stuff and cam's answer which mayock thought was a good answer, btw. they also talk about his "icon" statements to peter king. guess what? context is king. what king failed to reveal about the comments was that it was an interview about his endorsement deal and he said hes not just a football player, but he did admit that he could have chosen his words better. he posted the answer, but he didn't post the question. pretty cheap thing to do.

He seems like a good kid and he's very talented... but I'm thinking he just needs too much development to make sense as the # 1 overall pick.

As far as arm strength is concerned, I don't think there is much difference. Cam didn't play in college with the same level of discipline and attention to detail as Luck. If you simply look at Cam's footwork in college, and then look at Luck's, you can see Luck clearly has better footwork. That's just one glaring area.

One word: Harbaugh

Based on those out throws? Everybody at the NFL Network pretty much agreed that was easily fixable. His deep throws were pretty darn good even if they were a hair overthrown.

Just for poops and giggles, does anybody know if there is any video still out there of Jimmy Clausen's combine? This year is the first time I've been able to watch it, so I really have nothing to compare this year's QB's to.

Cam would give the Panthers a much larger market, which they so badly need and if he is Big Ben and not Payton Manning I'll take that.

Not sitting on the bench for the first two years he doesn't.

Regardless, it's cart before the horse. Winning is what gives the team a bigger stage. You draft the player that best helps you win. Not one that gets attention in the media or from fans. Any GM that factors ticket sales into who he drafts is thinking backwards.

what options? you talking about one year wonder QB and then Jimmy Clausen. WOW you have to be kidding. Jimmy doesn't have good footwork, he forces the ball to often, he doen't keep his eyes down feild and he is a check down machine.

McNabb, maybe Palmer, Bulger, Volek.

Cam couldn't hit targets today in shorts with no defense. Don't know if he can read defenses, don't know if he can go thru progressions, don't know how we'll play from under center taking 3-5-7 step drops.

Yeah, but could he be better than what we got so far? Can we pass on such a talent at a obvious position of need?

Rivera likes him. The only question is does Chud and Shula think they can make him into an NFL great. There is no doubt he comes with all the tools and natural ability.

I have a feeling he is Jerry Richardsons type of guy, humble(by teammates account), highly confident, and gifted. I have a feeling he will be impressed.

Cam was not suppose to hit targets, he was suppose to throw in an area. His long passes were on target with the cone. But I can say some of his passes were high, but if you heard his QB coach, you would want those out passes high if they are incomplete. McNabb would be nice but he is at the end of his career, Palmer is not going anywhere, Bulger is a good choice but Carolina needs a franchise QB (he aint it)and Volek is a career backup.

honestly after last season, i'm willing to take him let him develop...clausen just doesn't look like he has the physical attributes to play in a vertical offense nor the intangibles to get people like Steve Smith to actually want to listen to them. It seems weird that I'm not patient with Clausen..but he showed so little with batted passes and underthrown balls that he's projecting more to be a backup in the league now..

We could wait next year and hope that there's a better(more ready) QB to develop to fall into our laps next year, but I'd rather start building our franchise now then trying to guess what will be next year. However I dont' mind waiting for our franchise to get going while we watch a QB actually grow before our eyes..not always wonder what if. IMO Newton with one year of experience is going to put us in a better position then any QB we would draft next year.
