And that right there should tell you the appropriate levels of attention we should pay to the combine.

Those who attended Newton's workout said he was 11-of-21 and was high on a lot of throws

That is a little misleading bc some of his completions were "misses" and a couple of his incompletions were good throws.

He was high on at least three of those. One of the deep out to the left and two on the deep out to the right.

It will be interesting to see how much, if at all, he improves between now and his pro day.

I don't think he hurt himself today. But I also don't think he helped himself very much either.

So basically he is who we thought he was.

On the flip side, Ryan Mallett looked awesome. I still think he sneaks in the back side of the first. I am predicting he leap frogs Locker when teams actually pick.

Newton struggled with his accuracy, going 1-for-6 on out routes. He was missing high, which George Whitfield, his QB tutor, pointed out is where you want to miss on that route.

An underthrow or a pass thrown behind a receiver running an out could result in a pick-six (Panther fans saw a few of those last season).

Newton showed off his cannon arm. Though he was 0-for-3 on go routes, he certainly did not miss short.

He demonstrated nice touch by completing 2 of his 3 passes on corner routes.

All in all, an uneven performance, but not one that's going to hurt his draft status. Everyone knew coming in Newton needed polish with his pass sets and technique.

His interviews are still his most important test here. And reporters don't get to sit in on those.

I am not knowledgeable enough to know what to make of the combine.

I mean, its so difficult to predict how these guys are going to react in different situations and on different teams.

I dont get into analyzing because I dont pretend to know what makes a guys successful or not.

Hard for me to say anything about this having not actually seen it. Anyone got any videos?

I will say though, Locker & Mallett both did very well. And I still wouldn't touch either of them with a 10 foot poll on draft day.
