QB Combine Thread

Just watched his interview with NFL network guys. I really like this kid. He didn't throw as well as he wanted to but I think he was pressing a little bit.

He is going to be fine and I think will develop into a good passer. But as we have all said all along his footwork will have to get better. It wasn't him throwing as much as it was timing. He wasn't getting back quick enough and he was rushing his throws on the deep outs.

Also keep in mind that is doesn't matter if he "completed" the passes. he had some good throws that weren't "completed". Especially on the deep outs and go routes. Was high on several of the deep out routes

guess he isn't perfect, DARN.

Dude!! It wasn't Cam's fault. His receivers were too short. It was obvious!!!:ma::ma:

:D :D

He did fine. Was a little juiced up and I think tried to throw a little too hard instead of just putting the ball where it needed to be.

Like I said probably didn't hurt himself too much but also didn't help himself.

He was about what we expected.

Mayock and co. said that Cam looks better throwing in a real game than he does in shorts throwing against air. I thought that was quite a compliment and I agree with them. Mallett, on the other hand, will always look good against air or with a nice clean pocket, but he is just not very good at all under pressure...at least not when I've seen him play. To me, that's what seperates the real QB's from the wannabes, because there will most definitely be pressure in the NFL, and QB's have to be able to complete passes with guys around their feet and from awkward body positions.

Tyrod Taylor, on the other hand, looks good.

his in game deep ball sucks ass. all over the place. seen it waaaaay too often. he is fine short to mid range. deep bombs he usually underthrows by a good bit. he is soo under rated as a passer. unfortunately he is cfl bound (where he should be well suited for). if he was given time on a PS or 3rd string he could turn into something (like pat white could have). if we didnt have 2 young guys on the team i would love to take him, but not gona happen as a qb. he could be a intresting conversion project like edwards but not at the same price. unfortunately he is pretty set at being a qb from what i last read (could have changed though).

Like I said in the other thread, this combine didn't help either the Cam lovers or the Cam haters. It turns out Cam's just as good or more of an athlete as the lovers were saying and he's just as bad or worse of a passer as the haters were saying. What will determine if we pick him at #1 is if we think we believe we can coach him into being a better passer to go along with his AAAAAAAA athleticism.

i actually thought the opposite tbh. was a better passer than i expected and less athletic (though still quite athletic), but i could have simply been misinformed

anyway Cam Newton is a project. We always knew he was. Anyone who thought differently is crazy.

For the record I have agreed with this throughout. But when I look at projects I think that people with footwork issues can make a more rapid development than people with throwing mechanics issues. It is easier with the footwork than revamping your "swing". Plus I think it is a positive that he is mobile enough to make plays with his feet until he feels more comfortable.

I know he is a project. Just not the type that will take 2 or 3 years (mechanically that is, it takes most all QB's 2-3 years mentally).
