It's good that Shockey got out of the shadow of the tight end who will called the league's best by next season. Sort of like when Winslow came in at Miami.

I always loved Shockey's game since he was a Cane... Can be a dick sometimes, but that's good for our team, we could use that. Get him in here with Beason and bring some more of that U swag in here.

I really hope we sign him... I don't think he's what he used to be, but that's still better than what we have, or at least shown out of the corps we've kept recently. Also would give us even more of an advantage against New Orleans. I'm all for it.

Per a league source, Shockey plans to sign with a new team before the expiration of the current league year, and in turn the possible commencement of a lockout.

At this point, however, no deal is imminent with the two teams that have shown interest in Shockey: the Dolphins and the Panthers. Even though Shockey has said he’d like to play for the Dolphins, we’re told that Shockey prefers the Panthers because of the presence of offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski, who worked at the University of Miami while Shockey played there.
