What does the NFLPA think they are going to achieve?

Really? De certify and file a suit...for what? There is no court in the land going to force an employer to pay employees X amount of money, they can't.

I'm sorry but there is nothing to sue for. The NFLPA agreed to the opt out clause in the CBA so they can't sue for that. The courts nor congress are going to force the NFL to open their books, they can't. Reject their antitrust exemptions? Yeah good luck with that, how many on capital hill do you think are directly tied to the NFL and the owners? So that isn't going to happen.

Recruit the QB's? Uh if you decertify they are in the camp with you anyway. And I am not sure if I am an NFL player if I want my name listed as a plaintiff I don't care if your name is Manning or not.

At some point the players are going to have to come to grips with the fact they are going to have to take a pay cut period. Not re arrange things where they still get the same money some other way, a pay CUT. And they are really fuging up pulling this poo at this time. Ask any state worker in Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, Oklahoma etc if they give one rats ass the multi millionaires are having to take a pay cut. Do they not watch the news or read the newspaper?

This isn't about pay, it's about getting around the League's exemption from certain anti-trust laws.

If they do decertify it gives the players a lot more power.

It's still a stand off and neither side wants to soften their stance.

What bothers me is that this comes after a week of negotiations with a federal mediator.

If they decertify so what? they can sue, again I ask sue for what? In the CBA agreed to by the NFLPA the owners have the right to opt out, they agreed to this. No court, no lawsuit is going to help players get X amount of pay, not gonna happen.

Look the courts aren't stupid, it is more than obvious to anyone with a 3rd grade education D Smith never intended to negotiate in good faith. He wants to try to get this in court this entire time and he is going to get his ass kicked in court. the NFL will prove he never intended to negotiate and it is then all going to come crumbling down for the players.

You can't dictate to an employer the % of the company income you get. They aren't opening the books and all lawsuits are frivolous. All this does is screw over us fans.

Why are you surprised? The whole "The owners won't budge!" may be true, but neither will the players reps. People at the top of both sides would rather not play than cave to the others demands. =|

When they prove, and they will, this has been smiths plan all along, they will bring in replacements and have football while the players sit.

Look I am sorry but with the developments going on in most states, pretty much all sympathy toward spoiled millionaires went out the window. Damn instead of a million this year you only make 850,000 awww poor baby.

I'm not a fan of trying your case in the media and I certainly don't think it's going to buy them any favor with the opposition.

Personally I think D Smith is a big part of the problem. I think he's more worried about his legacy than he is getting something done. If Upshaw was still in charge I think this would have been resolved already.

1. The "meetings" with the Federal mediator were a joke to begin with. Do you all know that not a single owner was in attendance all week at those "meetings?" If you go back and read all the news regarding those "meetings" all they mentioned was "the NFLPA and the league" were meeting. There are 3 sides to this fight- the league, the owners and the players.

2. So what the union decertifies. All this means is the players have to individually file lawsuits rather than the union as a whole, which means they have to hire attorneys out of their own pocket and go against the owners. Good luck with that.

3. When the expiring CBA was signed there was a clause that allowed either the owners or the players to opt out. The owners just happened to be the ones who exercised this option.

4. Should the union officially decertify next week, the owners will have accomplished what the NBA and MLB owners would love to do- bust the union.

The 2011/2012 NFL season will start in November.... (my prediction)

Bingo! the NFLPA and players don't get this fact. Sue individually? Again I ask for what? There is nothing legally to sue for. 'Waaaah my boss doesn't want to pay me x amount anymore....waaaaah'. The courts are gonna laugh any lawsuit out the door.

Look when Reggie etal sued for Free Agency, sure they had a legal issue to stand on. They wanted the right to be able to go to another team and make more money or have a chance to win. there was a legal precedent for that.

This time, they have nothing. Someone please explain to me what they are going to sue the NFL for? the players are going to lose in court, the owners will have broken the Union and that will be the end of that. You guys were upset at a possible 18% paycut (which could have been negotiated to less I am sure)? LOL wait till your union is broken, bend over boys.

For every 'Star' player out there that is going to scream the NFL needs them, there is a future 'star' coming out of college that will gladly take HALF what the studs today make.
