I still want to trade down.

Ok a point that needs to finally be accepted here, there is NO proof what so ever that Cam Newton will EVER be an eliete/ Franchise QB in this league. Every QB has more fleas than not with this draft class.

IMHO any team spending a high pick on any of these guys is taking a more than normal risk. Every QB is a risk, Bradford, Sanchez, Ryan, Flacco, Stafford. But this crop has more bust potential than any class I have seen in a long long time.

The only reason Cam is getting this much hype is Andrew Luck stayed in School and he is a physical talent that is rare for a QB. I would much take a risk on a QB that has done it 2-3 years at the D1 level, not been in the system he was in in College and doesn't have as many flags character wise.

Do you pass on a franchise QB if he is there with #1? No, but I don't see Brandford, Manning (either one), Matt Ryan, Mathew Stafford etal sitting there for us to take. Yeah it sucks, it sucks royal ass to have the #1 pick and all the QB's have this many questions. It sucks ass Luck said fug you to the NFL this year, but it is what it is and you deal with the hand delt.

I would much rather see this franchise wait than reach. If we take newton and he is a bust, this franchise is set back at least 5-7 more years. Cam Newton to me is not worth that risk. If he can become a franchise guy and we press him onto the field sooner than later with this team, you run the risk of ruining him. I want to see us trade down, gather more picks and get the TEAM ready for its franchise QB that we can most likely get next year.

I like this post and it does lay out the possible reality here in Panther land. I just hope Hurney, Rivera, etc ARE taking a real look at Cam to determine if he can be a franchise guy. I think they are and if they feel he can be they will pick him. They wont reach just to pick a QB.

We will keep the first pick, b/c no one will ask for it. And as soon as we start shopping that first pick, the more value it loses. Why would Buffalo trade us their first two round picks when they feel pretty good about getting Cam anyway? They know Denver wont take him and obviously we are not taking him or we wouldnt trade them the pick anyway. They lose far more by giving us the #3 and #35 picks, same with most teams in the top 7 range. Just like the list of 7 someone made earlier, those players all have similar value and most teams would be happy that any of those guys fall to them. If we could trade down and stay in the top 5 and pick up a 2nd or even a 3rd, I think we made out pretty well and would be very happy.
