Your combine - bench press

Damn JR i had no idea... that sucks man. One of my buddies here detached his bicep last year playing bball... but I don't think his was as bad as yours sounds. So you're still heavy in PT I take it? I'm done with it on my shoulder but I have to exercise it on my own. Went to the Dr yesterday and he said he's happy with my progress so far... 12 month 100% recovery time for my surgery...

At this point I just wanna get back on the golf course and shooting bball... not as concerned with the weightroom now.

you are right, i lifted with those types.... "hey lets bench".....no thanks i work the whole body, "LETS BENCH!!!!!!". meat-heads...

Yup, I had a strength coach in high school that was much more interested in our dynamic movements like cleans and snatches, those translate to an athletic activity much better than benching.

Being 6'7" I was at a huge disadvantage doing cleans and snatches as well... LOL

Back when I was a little twig in high school (5'11ish, 160 lbs) I was just shy of benching twice my body weight. (I managed to get over 300 on two separate occasions) I could do a set of 10 reps of 225, but I never tried to do more. Sometimes 225 would be my first or second set, so I'd go up in weight for a set of 10.

Now that my body has filled out and I switched to mostly dumbbells, I've lost all form on the bench. Last time I tried to bench, I could only get a set of 7 or 8 at 225. I threw another 20 pounds on there and stopped at 2 reps.

My all-time 1 rep max was 450, never tried to see how many times I could rep 225 back in the day.

I can walk into a gym right now and do 15 reps of 315 (broken into 3 sets of 5 reps with rest in between) but I'm not sure how many times I could bang out 225 with no rest?

Don't ask me what my 40 time would be, LOL

Back in my high school days I had a 350 max. It was more than twice my weight at the time (not quite twice my weight anymore, sadly) :(

I know I did about 500 on the squat machine a couple of times but never learned what my max was there.

Like you, we never did the "how many reps" thing, but I regularly worked out with 225 doing two sets of ten (last few on the second set were a strain, as I recall).

Pretty sure I had the better 40 (was one of the faster guys on my team) but no shock given I was about half your size...

I used to see these idiots all the time... if it's bouncing you're doin it wrong... I've also seen a lot of guys doing 1/2 presses and think they're doin something.

A good way to tell is see if they do any incline presses.. usually not. When I could get 14 @ 225 on flat bench I could do 8 @ 225 on incline.

I prob could do twice as much if I bounce it off my chest. I control it all the way down and back up. I will say though I dont go lower then parallel anymore because of fear of tearing a rotator cuff. I just feel like I rather not experience that pain and just work my shoulders separately.

I feel your pain ....last time I was at the gym (1/5/11) I was on my last rep of a preacher curl and heard a loud "snap" and watched my bicep shoot up to my shoulder like it was the space shuttle Discovery taking off. Seems my bicep did not like being attached to my bone anymore. Worst experience of my life.

After a $25K surgery that left half my arm numb for life most likely, I now get to go to physical therapy 3 times a week to learn how to do fun things like open and close my hand. In about 3 months I will begin weight training with 1lb. dumbells that will most likely be pink. Yipee!

I will never try to max out in weight training again. Especially not on the bench press....saw a guy detach his pec muscle one time doing that. Nastiest thing I have ever seen.

Wow that's something I do not want to experience. I also believe if you cant press it more then 3 times it does not matter.

Damn goat

Damn boat.
