Your combine - bench press

Zod

Recommended Posts

Used to bench 225lbs about 12-15 times. Then I got greedy, tried to bench 350lbs, my right shoulder popped out of my socket and the bar nearly killed me. Have not benched sense. Every time I think about benching, I look at my bar and it have a nice dry bloody spot on it. Good reminder not to be greedy.

Me and my 38" arms agree.

Oh Pleeeaaaasssseee! :) The more size you have, the more room for muscle. That's why all the heavyweight lifters are big fuggers, as Zod would say.

In my day, which was a while ago, I weighed 195 and maxed BP at 360 ... with no supplements. I warmed up with 15 quick ones at 225. I did 23 reps once b/c a cougar was spotting me. I could've pushed 4 - 5 more but didn't want her to see me strain. Like I said ... that was a while ago!:D

I played with a guy in college that snapped his pec on max day. Big guy, played d-line for us and was getting some NFL looks. He had 500 lbs on the bar. Took it off the rack and about half way down I heard this loud pop and that 500 lbs bounced 3 times on his chest before the spotters knew what happened. Scary stuff.

Nope... longer arms = harder to bench because you have to move the same amount of weight farther, it's simple physics.

The guys even mentioned it during the combine coverage, they have a chart that compensates for arm length when comparing the bench press reps.

Hmmmm .... simple physics with one exception. You failed to include that longer arms also means the body can accumulate more muscle mass and therefore, exert more force to move the mass to its final resting spot ... above the bar.
