Your combine - bench press

Most I ever maxed in college on bench was 450 lbs. not sure what that would translate into with 225 reps. I used to do sets of 10 with 225 - 275 lbs.

Squat max was 565

Incline bench max was 325

Power clean max was 315

Today, my max would be about 8 lbs on all those lifts.

At a 450lb max, you were probably at least at 25x 225lbs.

I'm exactly backwards... I'm way stronger now than when I was younger... I didn't really start lifting until I was like 24 or so... and didn't really get into it until a few years after that. I work harder now at 38 than I ever did when I was younger. If I hadn't torn my rotator cuff last year, I think I would be up to at least a 350 max by now...

I changed routines every 4 weeks, actual prefer dumbbells as you can go deeper in the press, also works on those stabilizing muscles more. More freedom to hit different angles, particularly good for getting all three heads of the triceps.

I use to do the same to shock my body.

I use to work out with 210 all the time but never really maxed to see.

I feel your pain ....last time I was at the gym (1/5/11) I was on my last rep of a preacher curl and heard a loud "snap" and watched my bicep shoot up to my shoulder like it was the space shuttle Discovery taking off. Seems my bicep did not like being attached to my bone anymore. Worst experience of my life.

After a $25K surgery that left half my arm numb for life most likely, I now get to go to physical therapy 3 times a week to learn how to do fun things like open and close my hand. In about 3 months I will begin weight training with 1lb. dumbells that will most likely be pink. Yipee!

I will never try to max out in weight training again. Especially not on the bench press....saw a guy detach his pec muscle one time doing that. Nastiest thing I have ever seen.

This is why I do multiple reps of light weights, rather than trying to max it.

Oh and to answer the question - I've no idea, I've never tried to lift 225lbs. Who in their right mind would?!
