It isn't too early to say Clausen doesn't fit Rivera's offensive scheme or Fox's. He doesn't. If Clausen was going to have a shot then he would have sat the bench under Fox and Carolina brought in a WCO.

Clausen didn't fit what Fox does. Which was fine since Fox was out the door. He doesn't fit what Chud claims to be about or PROVED to be about in Cleveland.

Fox had a choice. Fox inserted him in week 2 and that was retarded....the reasoning behind it can be debated in a different thread.

Clausen is not a QB to sit in a pocket and attack downfield in a vertical passing attack. No matter how much you want him to be he isn't that. He doesn't fit that. He wasn't in college. Won't be in the pros. He doesn't have the tools or mindset to do it. Again, it is like asking Mike Goodson to run like Jerome Bettis.....no matter how much talent Goodson has it ain't gonna show.

Show me a QB who was drafted early and started as a rookie and was cut the next year? Basically, everyone here is CUTTING JC right now. Watch some clips of Elway's rookie season. Clausen was better.

Now, if you have only 1 example of a player drafted first overall who played worse as a rookie than JC and ended up in the Hall of Fame, why is it too difficult to imagine JC on the team next year? Why has everyone quit on him when I hear everyone saying we should take Cam and he will need a year or two to develop?

That is HYPOCRISY. THe first overall pick, like Elway and Newton ( if some have their way) should get more time to develop that you have given Clausen when they are given better conditions to succeed? Really?

Am I missing something? Did you want to cut Charles Johnson after his rookie year? Steve Smith? James Anderson? Well, their positions require less time to transition traditionally, than QB.

If we draft Newton and he starts, you will be on here in a year talking about Andrew Luck.

It's not about production but his physical tools and his potential. You were lied to all along (not me because I knew how terrible he was and tried to tell the masses but a group of idiots outweighs one genius) about Clausen's "potential" and how he is NFL ready. Clausen is small, chubby, slow, has a low release, a slow delivery, and a weak arm. Clausen is not raw that just needs fine tuning. He is at his ceiling and the only way he looks better is if his team is far superior and the offense is designed to completely hide his many flaws.

If you draft someone like Cam, you understand that he is basically very raw as a QB but has insane physical tools that once sharpened could make him a threat at the QB position for years to come. He is not already at his ceiling and he might not have a ceiling, which is why he would get 2-3 years if he were drafted #1.

Then throw in money and you are talking about giving up on $2mil versus $30 mil

I do think there's a good chance Clausen goes into the season as the starter. My favorite scenario would be to draft Newton, sign Volek (or another vet) and sit Newton for a year. Go into the season with Clausen as the starter, but keep Volek/vet ready to go if he struggles.
