Clayton Observations Panther's unlikely to select Cam

Vick is 100x faster and quicker than Cam and relies on his quickness not his size to be a runner. Cam is not very quick but is relatively fast once he gets going. Vick is lazy who didn't care about the game and you have all been telling us that Cam is a hard worker and wants to be the best. One of Vick's strengths is throwing the deep in route which is what Cam's weakness is.

Please tell me why it's a great comparison?

wrong... one of cam's strength is the deep pass... but since we going with possiblities hhe could be better than vick.

Yes, Cam's deep ball is a strength, but his deep in, which is an intermediate route and what I referred to, is a weakness.

Yes, in terms of production he could be anywhere from Jesus himself to that 8 year old I watched last week, those are all possible. :hurray:

I'm sure David Shula has watched film of both Newton and Gabbert and I would not be surprised if the Panthers picked one of them.

Newton is a fine athelete. If Shula feels he can work with him, sees things on the tape that he feels he can fix, I'm fine with the pick of him.

The film breakdown by Mayock on Gabbert the other night was pretty interesting based on Gabbert's reading of various options and positioning of his feet to cause CBs and QBs to not be able to see where Gabbert was going with the ball.

This franchise has to try something different, or we can keep picking that DT/DE insert position and continue to be mediocre. Sometimes risk/reward is required. That DT/DE could be an impact player, but, if this team can't get a 1st down and move the chains, so what...so we will be 4-12 vs. 2-14 or we could reach for the stars at 6-10.

If not now, when.

Complete meltdown.
won't happen, esp. to the degree that it did with luck.

we'll still be getting someone good. hopefully it will be one of peterson, green, or fairley.

any major meltdown will come from the anti-newton folks if we do draft him. that will be hilarious.

Lol I am far from a Cam Newton fan but his reasoning means absolutley nothing just about every huddler on here knows that Hurney liked Clausen coming out of college and he would much rather have him pan out than draft another QB.

I'll say this for the 5,000th time. The QB situation is not stable. It has nothing to do with who you want starting or how you want it addressed. It needs to be addressed by bringing in legit competition through FA or the draft. The QB position needs stability. Clausen doesn't bring stability it is IMPOSSIBLE for him to bring stability because he can't prove it during the off season.

Why no QB if there is no CBA?

Because if the lockout extends into June, you won't be able to even get him the playbook until training camp is upon you. By that time you are running plays and building chemistry not learning the terminology and the concepts. The rookie would get no time at all to learn the basics and the learning curve would be steep. Hardly worth a number 1 pick if he didn't see the field all year. At least that is the accepted logic I have read. The thought is go with a corner or running back, possibly a wide receiver who could contribute right away. The next year you know more about Clausen and get the proper time to work with an rookie draft pick. If that happens, we will likely be pretty bad and will likely get a 10 ten pick. Might as well shake the dice, then, rather than now. Maybe not Luck but we would get the 2nd or 3rd pick who would be no worse than this year's group the thinking goes. Either way you want to get bang for your buck.

If this type of short term thinking appeals to you, then you pass on a QB this year. Just like we have every year. Next year we will find a reason not to do it again. Don't want to start over again with a new guy since we went perhaps 6-10 in 2011 maybe better, maybe worse, who knows???

If you have more of a long term approach, then you pick a QB who can upgrade the position and provides the most upside. The later into the year the lockout goes, the less difference it makes whether you pull the trigger this year or next.

I'd say the flipside is way more likely.

I've not seen anyone in the camp that doubts Newton or wants someone else say anything to suggest that they'd go nuts if he was the choice. Just the opposite. Everyone pretty much says they'll support it if that's the team's choice.

If, however, the team doesn't pick Newton, I fully expect several posters to start screaming "OMG THIS TEAM DOESN'T CARE ABOUT WINNING THEY JUST PASSED ON THE GREATEST QB IN HISTORY WE ARE STUCK WITH CLAUSEN RICHARDSON IS OLD AND SENILE AND I HOPE HE DIES!!!"

(or something to that effect)

What would be worse if we say this ten years from now :D :D

As for me "Cam's biggest pimp" if we go in another direction I am cool with that. I hope we pick Cam but if we don't I won't cry into my pillow that night.

I would just be curious what our plan for the QB position is.

I will only do that if we skip Newton and Draft Gabbert. That kid does more than scare me, He has bust wrote all over him.

We might like Clausen, but if we think Newton can be a franchise QB we'll take him.

You're not one of the folks I have in mind when I say that.

Honestly, it"s not so much that I think every Newton supporter will go that route as much as it is recognizing that some of the people who've shown a propensity for that sort of thing are in the "draft Newton at all costs" camp.

No, I totally understand where you are coming from - I like Cam but I have enough faith in Hurney that I'll support whomever we decide to take # 1 overall.
