Clayton Observations Panther's unlikely to select Cam

The front office bluntly said the moment they got the #1 spot Andrew Luck would be a Panther. Ever since Rivera got the job all he has stressed over and over and over....is they need to find a franchise QB.

None of that screams them loving Clausen or that they have confidence in him being the guy.....if they thought he was they guy they would say it. Most teams w/ a QB they are grooming clearly say that.

Right, but that doesn't mean they'll take Newton. Gabbert, Mallet, etc....Newton isn't the only QB in this draft.

I guess we really thnk clausen is a franchise Quarterback...sigh...

I really doubt Rivera sees Clausen as the "franchise" QB

Hurney did spend our 1st pick on Clausen last year, so I doubt (for his own ego's sake) that he'll just throw Clausen under the bus so fast.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing Newton go to Buffalo... the Bills could use some hype (as could we) but I'd rather not just jump the gun if we're not sold on Newton becoming the franchise (as his ego seems to be questioned)

It may just work out perfectly... draft a DT (or AJ Green) this year...

Have another horrible season next year (if it happens, which I think it will for sure) and use our 1st Round pick on Andrew Luck ...a true class act...of whom the Panthers would love to have as the "franchise"

I just don't see Richardson wanting Newton at all...

your right.....

but it does show Rivera wants him a QB and by his talk he wants one sooner rather than later. He isn't a lameduck coach and I doubt he is gonna waste his time with 2 leftover QBs who belong in a different scheme than what he runs.

I still believe Hurney may go elsewhere for a current starter. I am also believing that if a new CBA deal is made before the draft then yes we'll see a QB for us in the 1st round. HOWEVER, no CBA? No QB. Just the way I see it playing out right now.

I still don't get that train of thought....would never happen. Fox was a flawed stubborn lameduck coach......who has no excuse for going 2-14. Way too much talent for only 2 wins. Luck will land in someone else's lap.

Why no QB if there is no CBA?

The longer the CBA talks go, the bleaker a season will look at with Andrew Luck sitting out there for next season. The possibilities of the Panthers getting another #1 Overall are very possible.

Never run to an oasis unless you have to.

I disagree with Clayton. The Panthers are not happy with JC, they simply want to make sure that his suckage was not merely a product of his environment. I think he needs to be rewired and the offense healed. That may or may not work.

However, to jump to the conclusion that Newton is messiah is silly. Newton just gives the staff a completely different set of problems until he shows that he can mentally function at the NFL level. When I see him look to the sideline after lining up in the spread to get the pre-snap reads, I wonder....

I think the staff's read on Jimmy Clausen is that they don't really know how good (or bad) he is at this point because last year was such a unique situation. Therefore, he'll be given the chance to prove it one way or the other.

(Rivera has said this publicly from the beginning, and more than once)

Um our owner said that we would take Luck if he declared. That should tell you we are not happy with Pickles. As much as every outlet wants newton to go to buffalo we will more then likely take him if he checks out. Buff will get Gabbert.

I wouldn't apply anything said about Andrew Luck to anyone else. Luck was a unique opportunity to get the next Peyton Manning. No one else is in that league.

Where the hell does Clayton get this stuff at? Certainly by not listening to our coach or GM talk..

More than likely from Pat Yasinskas, who's stated more than once that the ownership likes Clausen and isn't ready to give up on him yet. Pretty much anything Clayton says about the Panthers you can probably attribute to Yasinskas.

So what happens to this place when Newton isn't selected by Carolina? What then?

Complete meltdown.
