Panthers Bringing in Newton for Visit

in the past 3 seasons....4 different rookie QBs have taken there teams to the post season.

I think Smitty can handle a flawed young QB w/ potential. We heard all camp that Moore was light years ahead of Jimmy. Smitty clearly had no patience for a move that clearly made no sense. Jimmy wasn't just flawed....Jimmy couldn't attempt at letting the offense run. I think Smitty will be willing to stay if he knows there is a QB that can get the ball to the WRs. Too much talent in Carolina for 2 win seasons.

Anyone QB not named Clausen can get the ball to the receivers, it's just not enough

In nearly every interview, including today, Rivera basically stressed that they are still looking at the players from last year to see if any of them can be that franchise guy. They haven't written off Clausen yet, I don't think... but you are right that there is no way Rivera goes into camp with just Clausen at the helm and no competition.

In nearly every interview Rivera from day one has repeatedly stated he needs to find a QB. He then always politely adds that the player could be on the roster.....

If Rivera had high hopes Carolina had that guy...he wouldn't constasntly be talking about finding a QB every chance he gets. And that is just what he does. He is just being respectful claiming the guy could be on the roster. Neither Clausen nor Pike fit what Fox does....and that was fine b/c Fox was on the way out and it was talent for the new era. New era is here though and they don't fit.

Clausen is what he is. Clausen didn't fit Fox's downfield playaction oriented offense and he doesn't fit Chud's. Again, it would be like taking Mike Goodson and running him like he is Jerome Bettis.....it ain't gonna get the results you want b/c Goodson just doesn't fit that.

I think it would be enough. All this team needs is a QB capable of running an offense and making the plays and they have the talent to be right back at .500. If you can hover at .500 you can easily find yourself in the mix with a break here or there.

2 wins last season was a joke. Just shows how sad Fox and Clausen both were individually as well as together.

I meant for Smith. He wants to compete for championships and not just catch passes. Moore gets him the ball all the time but if Moore doesn't put Ws up there, Smith won't care.

Now what really gets to him is no catches AND losses.

wonder why no one cares that Andrew Luck has only had one truly great season. Is he a one hit wonder???

Would he be disqualified??

two seasons > one, even if one of those seasons wasn't so hot. lots more film to see improvement etc. not to mention all the things luck did this year that displayed things NFL teams were after.

To answer your question though, it's not the amount of "great" seasons because Chang and Brennan have those by the boatload, but rather it's the amount of tape for scouts to watch and pick up things and see growth and tenancies and so forth.

You can hide a lot of things for one year.

So is it he is a one hit wonder or there isn't enough film?? I know that he had MAJOR improvement from the beginning of this season till the end of the season. Does that account for anything??

Does the fact it was the greatest season in NCAA history at the QB position account for anything??

Again Luck only had one good season. What does that mean for him?? maybe he masked his deficiencies for one year??

A lot of people though Stafford and Sanchez was "light years" ahead of Josh Freeman two years ago because of the offense Freeman came from. to this point he is the best of the bunch.

So what does that all mean???

Nothing. If you think he can be great take him. If not don't. but don't act like Luck is the greatest QB prospect in the history of NFL drafts and he is light years ahead of everyone else.

Luck might be great and I would have loved to have been able to draft him. But Jesus Christ has his legend become that big that soon???? he isn't a lock you know.

Blah Blah Blah

It was not the greatest season in NCAA history by a QB.

He isn't a lock but he is a much much better prospect at the QB position than Cam Newton.
