He is doing the right thing.Even if they do not want him someone drafting below us may. This is maybe the most difficult draft in years to have the number 1 pick ,with one media darling and no clear number 1 pick. They are in a difficult situation. To make matters worse you may have the number 1 DE not even have played last year.

Last year at DT it was who is better Suh or McCoy with a simular comparison at DT this year between Fairley and Darius.

I doubt Rivera is gonna start his debut season w/ the mindset that Clausen doesn't fit....but I am gonna throw him out there to see if I can increase his value.

I will be shocked if Clausen starts based off what we saw from him and the projected offense they are gonna run. Rivera isn't a lameduck coach......Rivera has also been a little too politely vocal about the importance of QB for me to think Clausen starts unless there is some miracle progression.

In nearly every interview, including today, Rivera basically stressed that they are still looking at the players from last year to see if any of them can be that franchise guy. They haven't written off Clausen yet, I don't think... but you are right that there is no way Rivera goes into camp with just Clausen at the helm and no competition.

He doesn't really need a veteran signal caller to learn from. His quarterback coach Mike Shula was an NFL quarterback and has a great pedigree. The idea of a veteran in my book is to come in and play if he is capable not hold a clipboard. With our history of injuries that veteran is only 1 or 2 plays from being the starter.

We could see if Matt Moore would stay as the #2 or 1. The lights got big and the Giants D line wasn't the welcome to the NFL starting line up you'd like, but he's a good QB and he's already here. Having a guy like Shula is a plus though.

Does this OC and QB coach think they can make him a NFL QB? That is the question.

Smitty might want to stay for that. Moose wants Cam. If Moose feels that way I'm sure Steve does too. Jimmy was ineffective.

You don't have the chance to draft a top 5 or 10 QB every year. We are due our QB. If Rivera is a good coach we won't have this chance again for a while. He's very confident and has a hunger to win plus the tools to get it done.

Ehh. I think Steve Smith wants proof that the Panthers are returning to winning ways sooner rather than later. I do not think he really cares if we draft Cam Newton. Hell, that might even encourage him to go elsewhere with a QB that isn't going to need developing etc.

in the past 3 seasons....4 different rookie QBs have taken there teams to the post season.

I think Smitty can handle a flawed young QB w/ potential. We heard all camp that Moore was light years ahead of Jimmy. Smitty clearly had no patience for a move that clearly made no sense. Jimmy wasn't just flawed....Jimmy couldn't attempt at letting the offense run. I think Smitty will be willing to stay if he knows there is a QB that can get the ball to the WRs. Too much talent in Carolina for 2 win seasons.
