I think they are simply being used to prevent players being snatched away until the CBA is done. Meaning we can literally wait until the CBA extension before extending anyone.

They will obviously be meaningless after that point, but it's to stall the aggressive spenders from taking their pick.

Sacks aren't everything and has played at NT in the past. He provides some of the most consistent pressure up the middle in the NFL, if he finishes it off or not.

The point being Seattle's DEs had great seasons simply because the QBs had no where to go.

From what I remember of Mebane, isn't he more of a run-stopping DT that occupies space and lacks elite pass rushing skills? If so, I'd think he'd be a great fit, BUT, wouldn't eliminate Fairley from our equation on the D-Line. We need two DT's by the start of the season, and these two look like great compliments to one another. Fairley is not a run-stuffing DT, rather, an athletic, gap shooting, strong, and speedy DT.

No. Whilst Mebane has been good against the run, he really has been much better at applying consistent pressure. He really is an 'all-round' DT though and can do either very effectively.

I would agree with the all round player...not the biggest run stop, not the best pass rush, just consistent...when healthy.

I think you made a good point there and I would guess that Carroll is looking at that as well. The Dline didn't really suffer when he was injured this year. Probably felt like they could cope without him and it's likely not worth keeping him at an inflated price tag.

That said I think this was his worst year in a while...

Can he command doubles? If not draft Dareus. Hes not quite as explosive but uses his hands better, has done it more consistantly then Fairley in the same conference. I just have a gut feeling we are going to make moves in FA (whenever that is) to allow us to draft a QB.
