Men and commitment

I feel strange having people judge me based on someone I'm with, or to be judged as a "couple". I still love the new relationships and partners. When a girl starts to mention she'd like to be with me for a longer period of time than just a few weeks I immediately go into "how do I get rid of her" mode. Does this go away as you get older?
