The day of the draft I was listening to a radio show and they were talking about how unpredictable this draft was going to be, that nobody really knew what was going to happen and that anyone betting on the draft was dumb and throwing their money away.

At the end of the segment the guy said something like, "well, everything we just talked about is true, but if anyone wants some free money tonight, there is one guaranteed surefire pick, go put your bets in right now, Jalon Walker is 100% going 8th to the Panthers."

This McMillan+Scourton+Princely combination just seems way more sound, has far less/no flags and way greater potential.  Honestly, stepping back and looking at it, it really is one of the stronger scenarios we could’ve asked for.  WR1 and 2 potential starting OLBs.

The Denver trade we made was a very cool package that gave us a lot of flexibility. One of the more interesting mid-draft trades we’ve made and I think it really helped us out.

Have the Panthers ever been involved in a draft trade like that before? Times a changing.

This was a fascinating trade. I'd never seen any draft trade quite like it before. Of course non of our "beat reporters" asked Dan about it during his 3! draft day press conferences. I would have asked him who thought up/presented this trade. Was it the Panthers (maybe Eric Eager) or Broncos who thought this up

Yeah it was awful those post-draft pressers were practically unwatchable. Agree, Mike Kaye is very good.

he hails from philly where you have to ask edgy questions to stand out.  I ve told my Soronsen story a 100x times on here and I am still repulsed this is the mindset of the old school observer reporters

I've told this story on here before but in in the early 2000's after a panther game my friends and I ran into Tom Sorenson of the Charlotte Observer at the southend brewery.  He sat with us for a while and at some point he was asked directly about why the CO wasnt more critical of Jerry Richardson.   He basically said Charlotte is a nice quiet southern town and the people here didnt want those types of stories or those types of reporters/columnists that cause drama.  I am obviously paraphrasing but we asked about why the paper wasnt going after shinn and the hornets harder as well when he was going through his troubles and all the crappy moves they made.  He just said there is not an audience for that.   We argued and argued and he just didnt understand.  Maybe he was playing dumb but I remember being incredulous at the time that the people in the media thought that asking hard questions would turn off readers

Maybe they let some fans do the deal, because it was basically like the type of trades you see the fans do during their mock drafts all the time, just keep adding picks to the deal until the values about balance out, hahaha

It was Eric the pff guy.  He controlled a lot of our draft this year.  He has stated before you give up picks to trade up for QB specifically, any other positions you do pick swaps.
