2025 Panthers Draft Class - Overview

Recommended Posts

I like the look of this draft but I feel like I say that all the time for us. Unfortunately due to the bad Fitt drafts and last years draft we absolutely must have 3 solid nfl contributors at minimum here. If we get that then the franchise can take a step forward and be competitive.

I wonder what the trade back offers were? It would be interesting to put together a draft using those picks.  I did not think we would ever get a chance at Mike Green in the second or that we would pass him up for Scourton.  Princely in the third was great value but was it wise to take two edges at that point (probably, he is a really great value there)? I still see Tet as another big body that can't get separation, but i was encouraged by the fact that Bryce and him worked out together in California and have a rapport.  If the 49ers and Rams really wanted him too, i am probably wrong on his potential.  I was really expecting another turd class like last year and this one is much, much better at first blush. It could be a great draft class...only time will tell at this point.

I was thinking Charles Johnson.

He's a good feeney spin move that I never remember big money having. Plus I had forgotten that Charles is Panthers all-time sack leader.

I havnt got a read on nic, he's awful young and talented. He talks about effort and wants to stop the run. I need to see him in live action, then maybe its nickname or former panther name time for me.

That's the other sneaky thing we did during the pre draft, There were articles saying that we were the most aggressive team looking to trad back and yet we turned down 2 offers that didn't have us moving down that far, Especially the SF one so much like who are pick would be at 8 but we also had little intention if any really at all of trading down but we didn't want anyone to know we were really high on any player so no one tried to jump ahead of us, If the Niners and Rams knew we were going to draft Tmac they might have tried to jump in front of us for him instead of trading with us for him. By the time they realized he was our guy it was too late. Dan and Dave played the first round super smooth. Nobody knew what we wanted to do and the teams that wanted Tmac paid the price.  That's high level draft work there.

Crazy, Steve Smith just said on his draft recap that talking to coaches on the team.. that T-Mac was a surprise to them because the talk earlier that day was defense first and not T-Mac.

I thought he said other teams thought we were going defense and that's why Dallas thought they were going to get him at 12.  He did say they had a bad interview with him

No, he says I spoke to the coaches that morning and they went whoa that's not what we talked about earlier.

Probably explains all the smokescreens.

    • I think they are holding back to see what they have in the young guys, but I think it's a near certainty at some point they will bring someone else in. Right now (assuming we keep 5 CBs which is normal), the top 5 IMO are: 1) Jaycee Horn 2) Mike Jackson 3) Chau Smith-Wade 4) Shemar Bartholomew  5) Akayleb Evans   Obviously Jaycee is the alpha in that room and paid as such. Need him to stay healthy and continue to play at a Pro-Bowl level. Mike Jack did pretty well all things considered last year, and they gave him lower-level starter money. Fair deal for both sides.  Smith-Wade showed some promise as a slot CB. I think low-key he's a lock for the team. Different size and skill set than the other CBs. Shemar Bartholomew was the most sought after waiver claim last preseason. Was 5th CB most and inactive most of last year. Had a few defensive and ST snaps. Nothing of note good or bad but too small a sample size to make any judgment. Akayleb Evans was a 2022 4th Rounder for the Vikings. Has started 19 games (including Week 18 for the Panthers) in his career and played in 43. Was pretty good in 2023 before getting injured and falling down the depth chart last year. There's some other guys on the outside looking in, but until they show more in training camp I dont see anyway they make the 53. And only Jaycee, Mike Jack, and Smith-Wade are locks to make this roster IMO.
    • Was just reading the Ask the Old Guy story on the team's website and was shocked to see that only two 2nd Rounders have signed so far, 30 of them haven't. That isn't normal, the Texans really screwed things up for the rest of the league, no other explanation that I can think of for 30 of the 32 picks to still be unsigned at this point.
    • They need to address CB before season starts. This is not going to cut it.
