I'm guessing the league provided the contact information of all the prospects coming out this year. Once the teams have that list its probably available to all the top brass on the team. Each team has their own idea of who should have access to that information. I'm guessing the league will now set rules on who can have access to that information going forward.

can't believe that this wasn't already happening.

probably put all of it on some kind of signal chat.

So you're saying if you are working at home and decide to go make a sandwich in the kitchen while you have family members are in the house, you lock your computer for those 5 minutes to make sure one of your own family members doesn't go and do something stupid and mess with your job?

Unless you work in the highest levels of national security or something, that would just be a bit extreme, as nobody is thinking their own son is going to do something like that (again, unless he's done things in the past to make you think he is that dumb).

Yes.

The last thing I need is one of the animals (child included) running across the keyboard or accidentally deleting an important email.

I'd rather deal with the couple of extra seconds of having to put my password back in then compromise the data I'm trusted with. That's not extreme at all. It's literally the bare minimum that somebody could do next to nothing. Instead of chalking up blame to not knowing the future, we can prevent that future with just a little personal responsibility.

My personal laptop has about a five minute lock.

My company laptop will go about a minute and it will lock.  Same with my phone (because it has a remote access connection to my employer's network and they require it).  It is annoying, but I understand why they do it.   And I work from home.  I work in cyber threat and these are pretty standard requirements now for any major corporation. I bet they will be now for NFL teams.

You'd think that there'd be some type of league framework in place but it's mostly the burden of the teams to figure out and implement. I remember back towards the end of the Gettleman era doing a scrape and being shocked at what was discovered. 😮

My computer has access to some of my clients proprietary data/methods and in some cases the PII of their constituents and members.

The eye tracker I have locks my system if I turn my back on my computer much less get up and walk away.

I would have thought the NFL would give the prospects a contact list of numbers the teams would use to contact them during the draft.

It doesn't sound like they do if you watch the video calls notifying the player from the team. Every call from the GM introduces who they are and what team they work for. If the league does the players are not saving them in their phones.

When I was in my early 20s, this kid wound have been put on a pedestal.  Not only did he get the information from an Atlanta coach, he framed the Saints.  He is on a different level.  Don't get me wrong--it was stupid-- and if I was his dad I would be pissed--but the nerve--the balls---the unbridled disregard for the consequences of the establishment--few people have ever reached this level.  But there are others who were more brilliant, but for these examples, we have to go to the Ivey League and MIT.  Let's start with MIT:

During the 1982 season, seven members of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) managed to bury a weather balloon under the field in Harvard's stadium over a three-week period.

The meticulous planning and technologically advanced prank led to those MIT students (safely) disrupting the Harvard/Yale game during the second quarter. The balloon, with "MIT" written all over it, inflated to eight feet before popping.

The student newspaper at MIT covered the event with a simple, fitting headline.

"Saturday's score: MIT 1, Harvard/Yale 0."

--------------------

Yes, another Harvard/Yale game.

This time, though, MIT wasn't involved. No, this clever trick in 2004 was the brainchild of two Yale students with the assistance of about 20 others.

Disguised as "Harvard Pep Squad" members, the Yale students distribute red and white placards to the Crimson crowd. They assured the fans that "Go Harvard" would be spelled out on the cards.

In reality? "WE SUCK" appeared on the Harvard side.

this was stupid and immature and anyone who thinks it was funny is just as immature.

just a jackass move for anyone on anyone.

makes me want to cheer for Shadeur now.

I agree with your first two sentences.

Only way I would cheer for him though is if he became a Panther.  🙂

this "now" moment will likely pass in a few days when i and most people quit caring about this whole thing. still think it was an unfunny  immature jackass move and i have to say i'm not surprised by those who loved it and thought it was hilarious.

    • First on T-Mac, I 100% expect him to be the top WR from this class, however I think expecting him to put up 1k+ as a rookie isn't necessarily fair, especially since you're putting it in perspective of how many other rookie WRs have done that in recent years. And Thielen is the reason for that. Not many (if any) of those 1k+ rookies had someone like Thielen there when they were drafted, and no matter how good T-Mac is this year, Bryce is still going to lean on his existing chemistry with Thielen unless he's drastically lost a step this offseason and just can't get open like he's been able to in his career. As I pointed out in another thread the other day, looking at MHJ last year is the way to look at T-Mac's season if Thielen plays a full and healthy season.  MHJ had McBride "steal" 110+ catches and 1,100+ yards in what was a pass happy offense (Kyler was 9th in the league in attempts), it's going to be hard for any rookie to put up more than the 800ish yards he had last year in that scenario.  Especially if we follow a similar game plan to last year and be a run heavy team. In terms of XL, you're completely right, jumping up to get a project 2/3 isn't smart, and if we knew we needed a future slot from that pick, yes, Ladd would have been a much better pick. But at this point, those are all sunk costs, even taking T-Mac at 8 is now considered a sunk cost. Forgetting the past or who we maybe should have taken last year now knowing future roles, I still think T-Mac, XL, Coker can be one of the Top 1-3 WR rooms in the NFL in a few years, I honestly think they really do have that potential in them.
    • Maybe we should have just drafted a corner?  Crazy, I know.  One of the few positions we knew had to be addressed in the draft and nadda.
