It may take a decade to figure out. Early on it sure looked like the Chargers won that Eli trade. Rivers looked at least as good as Eli and they got numerous other high quality pieces. But when it was all done, 2 rings to none says the Giants clearly won.

Eli had the better career because of the SB’s of course, but the trade itself I think was a draw, they both got HOF QB’s out of it, and so much more goes into winning a SB than only the QB.

True. But at the end of the day you make the big swings at the top of the draft for a QB for one thing - rings. That's it. The Giants got 'em. The Chargers really didn't make much post season noise at all going 5-7 in the playoffs with Rivers.

And Eli was 0-4 in his career in the playoffs outside of the two SB seasons.  It’s not like Eli was dragging inferior teams to succes, he needed a fully built out team to win those SB’s.

If you remove the two SB’s, Rivers was the better QB between them.  I’m not taking away from how Eli played in those runs, but I’m not going to say those SB’s couldn’t have happened with Rivers either.

Which is why Eli had the better career, but the trade itself was a draw.

Eli's play in those two SBs runs was off the charts though. Two rings > none.

I'm not dismissing that, but again, that's why Eli had a better career than Rivers, because he put those runs together, even though Rivers was the better player, but that doesn't mean the Giants "clearly won the trade" like you said.

Rivers only started 6 more games than Eli and played in 8 more than him, but despite that, Rivers had 17 more wins, 6,400 more yards, 55 more TDs, 35 less INTs, and a 4.5% better completions, while making 8 Pro Bowls to Eli's 4, and all those extra stats came in somehow only a total of 15 more pass attempts in his career than Eli had.

The SB's are really the only part of their careers that Eli was better than Rivers, so there's a very real argument to be made that had the Giants not made the trade and just kept Rivers, they very well might have had even more success than they did under Eli, and because of that, I can't say they won the trade itself.

The Bears. Even if none of the guys work out on either side, the Bears got a legit 1000k WR. I still think Williams can have a Baker-esk turn around but I'm not expecting his maturity level to be high enough on his rookie contract if ever.

The Bears fleeced the Panthers and the team they have built around that mistake is unimpressive and looks to be going nowhere.

If Caleb Williams doesn't work out it's definitely his fault because the Bears are ALL IN. They went out and got an offensive coach and they've put an embarrassment of riches of skill positions talent around him. It's on him at this point.

Absolutely. He has the physical talent but his issues start between his ears. Again, it took baker 4 teams and 6 years to get his head out of his butt.

    • Thanks for the exact quotes, I just went back again to refresh myself because the overall sense I got from it was that Tet was “their guy” before the draft even started. I still get that when watching that whole presser as a whole, though there is certainly some ambiguity and room for interpretation. The question before he was talking about the couple days leading up to the draft and nit-picking Tmac’s film and how it was cool to come together with Morgan and know “unless somebody blew us out of the water, we weren’t gonna let our guy pass.” Sure he could have suddenly transitioned from talking about before the draft to the moment they were on the clock with the 8th pick, but I don’t know. I just think if they were hoping for Graham, his language would have been slightly different. Not in a way that anyone would think anything of it, there’s plenty of room to still be coach speaky about getting their guy and whatnot and nobody would bat an eye.
