We did. Also possible that if Chicago had traded up to get Caleb in 24, we could have had our pick and theirs this year to take TMac and Warren.

Not really though

For two main and connected reasons...  If we had been able to get the Bryce pick using the Rams picks as suggested, we'd have kept DJ, which in all likelihood might have been enough to keep us from "earning" the #1 pick last year anyways.  And even if it didn't, if we had DJ, we probably aren't taking T-Mac this year anyways as then a #1 WR wasn't as dire of a need and we probably go defense or that's when we take the TE instead of another WR.

I am rooting for Bryce but the Bears fleeced that idiot Fitterer. But we won’t know until about 3-5 years from now when we are hopefully winning some playoff games with Bryce.  I am not at all envious of Chicago having Caleb, he has talent but I don’t think he has what it takes to be a winner in the NFL just like he never won anything in college.

True. But also possible we didn't take XL and could have been looking at a 1a and 1b situation like Chase/Higgins having Moore and Tmac.

There's so many different possibilities of what we could have done and where we could have ended up. I'll still go back to my original point though.

Not trading Burns was a huge mistake and we lost any leverage of not paying him like a top 3 edge when we said no. If we weren't planning on paying him, which we ultimately weren't, we shouldn't have hesitated on making the trade.

What follows on my part is a lot of speculation of what could have happened, but I think they're realistic possibilities at least.

I still think we were taken to the cleaners by the Bears because they had the opportunity to have taken Daniel's over Williams, have Moore for him to throw to and this year's 2nd to work with.

The bears won this trade as of today.

there’s a chance Bryce continues to progress. But until Bryce becomes a repetitive pro bowler there’s no way you can say the panthers did anything except absolutely bomb in this trade.

All true

And yes, if you sent me back in a time machine without my knowledge of us drafting T-Mac, then yea, I'm doing the Rams trade and I'm not doing the Bryce trade.

But the most likely scenario is in that alternate universe where we did either or both of those, the dominoes don't end up falling to where T-Mac is a Panther, which really is the end all be all for me of course.

I look at everything that has happened in the Panthers 30 year history as leading to my favorite team drafting my school's best player and immediately giving me any new favorite Panther and overall football player of all time.

It's made even losing the SB's become even more tolerable, because it all lead to this...........

Yeah, me too. Now if Bryce wins us a Super Bowl, then I might have to revisit it. There's nothing earth-shattering here though. For me it's kind of hard to judge a trade like this one because it's five versus one. The five should almost always beat the one. The team trading for a number one draft pick and overall QB are likely always going to lose that trade by its very nature because they're basically gonna have to bend over in order to move up in that scenario. At least that's my thoughts on it.

right this off-season time, Id rather have DJ Moore over BY.

Plus I know that trade was nearly all on tepper on his QB pursuit, dam shame the hole that put the team in.

Short of Bryce Young going on to become a Super Bowl champion and Super Bowl MVP this trade will always be a big fat L. It is what it is.

Yeah the fact that they got the next year’s top pick pretty much sealed it as them winning it. We could have picked Stroud and they could have picked Daniels all the same.

If Caleb is the guy, then the Bears win the trade by nature of both teams getting a franchise QB but one gained additional assets.

If Caleb busts and Bryce doesn't, the Panthers clearly win the trade.

If both are the guys, then both teams win with Chicago getting extra.
